Yeah, kinda sad it wasnt a limited release  :(

Why be sad? A lot of people will be able to have these in their hands now. That's a good thing in my opinion, they won't be coveting mine!  ;)

I've been zombied out for a couple years now, but this has the comic strip charm working for it. Certainly gives it a new flavor. Usually I'm not big on bleed at the indices but I'm liking the use of caution tape on this one. Fun stuff.

Very nice price on a great deck. Run is a seriously good deck and the Bankroll color combination is dramatic in my opinion. Great offerings with that fifteen percent off too, CPC you're on a roll!

They're too basic and don't add much. I like Sci-Fi, but if you make a Sci-Fi deck, you need to go all in.

On the topic of Sci-Fi and space themed decks, can you think of any good ones?

Can do I'll PM you so this thread isn't diverted too much. ;)

58
If anything, I'd think the misprint would make it a rarity among playing cards and possibly more sought after than other club decks.  It also makes for a cool gaff card!

??? Come on Don. This isn't stamps or coins, you know playing cards don't work that way. I'm not going to beat a dead horse. Human error, it happens. I myself am a human and make many errors daily, some intentional although mixing cocoa with my coffee this morning was not one of those. It was a straight up and down dumbass moment, which I regretted for the next fifteen minutes. I think it's an impressive deck with or without the bonus pip. I did however have to comment after reading that bit. Now I'm going back to my corner and do what Fess's do.

Edit: Since imagination is a terrible thing and in case anyone is wondering what Fess is doing... Cranberries baby, cranberries. Tomorrow is US Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the topic, I've been slammed lately and haven't done much "forum-ing" these days (there are just soooo many darn places to communicate anymore, it's like a full time job).

At any rate, these are going to be the intro price until tomorrow at noon. The store has been a bit finicky at times because of people putting huge numbers of decks in their carts to see how many are left, which messes it up for everyone else. :(  As of right now, there are a handful of Black foiled decks and about 300 Red still left.

I think these are going to look great in hand and I'm looking forward to getting all of these out to people asap!

Ahh, that makes sense. I wish people wouldn't do that. Add what you want to buy and buy it. Seems like a simple process but apparently it's not. Curiosity will win out for some folks. While it's probably very entertaining to mess with the cart and check how many are available it only ends up being more work for you having to deal with additional orders and costs people like me more in shipping by having to place an another order. Sure gums up the works.

Maybe a happy medium would be to limit single purchases to 120 decks? That's a whole pile of plenty and would eliminate the cart games.

Tried to get 2x Celestial Red decks, apparently already sold out from what the checkout area of the store said. I did manage to get one Celestial Red though. I gotta say, that was sickeningly fast if they sold out that quickly.

Edit: It may be that Paul is slow rolling the Reds out to insure they last a bit longer. I went back at the suggestion of a friend on UC and was able to get a couple more decks. I'm okay with paying shipping twice for these haha. They are still in stock but I suspect these will be gone within the first 24 hours. Don't delay!

The font on these, ugh. It makes me want to be very honest and butcher this deck. I'm not going to do that. Everyone can see the pips, simplified tweaked courts and the font, ugh. Even though I enjoy Sci-Fi this are not to my taste, which isn't unexpected really. I haven't cared or their other two decks either. I doubt I'm the target audience and I'm sure that audience is going to enjoy these designs and be quite happy with this offering.

On the NPCC front, word is they've upgraded some of their process. I'll be able to say more when my expected decks arrive, which have nothing to do with this campaign or it's designers, next month or in early Jan. Something to look forward to hopefully. I like it when companies build upon what they have and make advancement toward being better. It's going to be fun to see what kind of product they're producing now.

Square-cut cards?  In this day and age?  And with indices that far away from the corner?

It looks like he printed these on some greeting card stock as a visual representation. The indices would be closer to the edge on an actual playing card and the corners should be rounded. There are other flaws in the design though which are a little difficult to overlook. I'm curious to see how the campaign fares and where the deck goes as it evolves. If this is considered perfect finished, I'd have to disagree from what I see so far. I am a fan of the card backs, I really like that aspect.

Overlords - Classic style Playing Cards with a Sci Fi Twist
by TwoGeeksGaming

Quote
Why do a Classic Deck this time? Well, to be perfectly honest we love those classic looking decks. I mean, who doesn't. They are the most widely used style of decks produced today. When we made the decision to try our hand at one, we knew right out of the gate that we needed to keep those classic "bones" of the deck, but then put in our own unique vision and style wherever we could without altering that well known look too much. Overlords is what we came up with. A classic style Poker Deck with a unique Sci Fi twist... inspired by Dune, Highlander and yes, even Romeo and Juliet.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: DEALN - KS
« on: November 21, 2016, 09:11:10 AM »
I'm not a big fan of the indices. They're a little too small in my opinion. Adding the divider between the rank and suit indicator  is interesting but it points out a sloppy element there as well. I think the suit indicators were placed based upon the bottom the pip rather than the top which will leave more distance between the divider and the pip based upon suit and pip design. Going off the top of the pip would clean that aspect up and add a little more polish to the deck.

The full bleed line on the courts is an interesting design element but it's a negative for a gaming deck, since DEALN is about the card case/single deck shoe meant for gaming it may be a good idea to revisit that aspect of the courts design. I think that the line can be implemented in the design without being a negative to the decks use for gaming as well ass keeping the integrity of the design itself. That's really neither here nor there at this point since the designer likes it and has decided to go with it. The indices are fixable before the deck goes to print and if this campaign is successful I hope they do fix them.

The single deck shoe/card case is a great idea. I think there are several flaws in the design starting with the size. It doesn't look like it will house a sealed deck of playing cards. It's just too small for that. I'm not going to play anything other than a very friendly game of whatever with people I know and trust where we only bet with marshmallows, etc, when the deck isn't sealed and presented to the table before opening. Anyone who does, well haha, I'm happy to host a poker night come on over and please bring a nice fat bankroll with you.

I'd love to see a little more security in keeping it closed beyond just the magnet. Adding something as simple as ball and hole to help keep that sucker locked shut while it bounces around in my pocket or wherever. Magnets reverse polarity for the strangest reasons and it can happen at any moment. I like the shoe/card case as a curiosity, more than a functional piece of equipment. I don't think it's quite finished and should be engineered to house a sealed tuck. Then it would be a brilliant piece of kit. I like where they're going with this though so I am happy to support the curiosity and the interesting deck with a fun card back.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: EL DORADO Playing cards - MAYA - KS
« on: November 19, 2016, 05:08:04 AM »
I'm not a fan of the black deck at all personally. It does not suit my taste and the eye feel is terrible. I'm sure there is some artistic something going on here but I've missed the boat on it entirely. To me there is a lot more wrong with the black deck than just a red card back.

I think it's worth pointing out here though that the design is so strong, a lot of the finer details of the design were hidden with the very flat black deck. The colored deck I am absolutely in love with. I didn't like the little doohickeys under the indices on the black deck, on the color deck they're great. I didn't care for the card back too much on the black deck, on the color deck it's quite nice. I've always likes the pips, I think they pop much better on the color deck though. The courts have always been interesting but the color courts are really good. I don't have to work to see them. Eye feel is way up across the board. Minus of course the stone marks in the background cards, it instantly limits the use of the deck for me and decreases my pledge from 3-6 decks to 1 deck. The stone marks, faux aging, whatever you want to call it aside though. The design pops in color, the color choices are fantastic! Emmanuel has brought his design to life with color and I hope to see more of it in the future. I can't imagine this deck not funding. Unless people just don't register it exists since he seems to be pushing the black deck harder.

It's also interesting to me to see the black deck taking the lead on the campaign page, it was a failed campaign when it was on it's own. Is it a case of artistic love? I don't know. I do know that it was easy for me to overlook the entire second campaign based on the KS image and the initial lay out of the page. If I hadn't wanted to dig deeper to see if that color card was part of it's own deck on the thumbnail I would have easily skipped this over entirely and went on to looking at that super cool flat measuring spoon, which was my whole reason for being on KS at the time anyway. It's only out of habit that I load up the Playing Cards section and sort it by new whenever I'm there.

You're welcome for the laughs, Annette!  I do like the second version of the Ace of Spades much better.

Some of the decks Fess mentioned are made with synthetic tucks - and some aren't.  The first deck to use it was Asi Wind's Chameleons and the 2014 52 Plus Joker gold deck predates that, as do the club's Pack Jackets (unless there's been an updated version since, which is possible - I don't know, personally, but Lee Asher and Bill Kalush would).  I know the Jetsetters in Altitude Blue have a synthetic tuck box and I don't have a L&T deck so I couldn't say one way or another.

Chameleons are still available from the Conjuring Arts Research Center - red and blue are US$10 a pack, the green is a premium deck at US$20 a pack and there are discounts for buying three-packs and one-dozen bricks.  How much longer they'll be around, I couldn't say - they are a limited edition, as are all the decks Fess mentioned.

Correct about the pack jackets, I don't know why I thought they were synthetic paper. Likely due to my not abusing decks or throwing them around in pack jackets, there is no real wear to any of them minus one black Expert pack jacket. That one took a beating but it's not a 52+ anyway pardon my mistake on the accessories. They are thick card stock and a minute with the thickness shoes that pretty clearly. Synthetic paper isn't as thick, you'll notice that about it right away. It has a pretty nice feel to it.

The decks I mentioned do all have synthetic paper tucks and Chams were not the first. Photos can be supplied if there is more dispute however it would be easier if you just popped over to CARC and investigated further. I'm pretty sure they say if a deck has synthetic paper. After just checking, yes they do say so. I'm sure there are more Decks that feature synthetic tucks, if I turned my brain on I would probably think of a couple. That selection is pretty good though a lot to enjoy there. Don is correct, each and every deck featuring synthetic tucks is Limited Edition. I can't imagine a non-LE deck showcasing a synthetic paper tuck. That's kind of mind blowing to consider really haha.

Back on topic about Vizago though, I think adding the black shade to the faces really helped out a lot. My eyes instantly see the eyes on each face and even though it's negative space the black allows the eye to follow the contour of the faces and flow. Mirroring the faces is a nice touch, it's smoother and has a nice effect. The eye feel is much nicer now. I like it and it looks good. Things are shaping up to be very interesting and I'd like to see where you're headed with the others. It's an enjoyable ride you're taking us on.

I also think a skewed solo face would work well in the Ace pips too, kind of a long the lines of the QoH image, how it's slightly bend, curving. May be dramatic and something to consider if you aren't quite happy with the AoS as is. if you did go with a solo face I think it would be a benefit to lose the outer ring along the pip on the Ace in favor of a bit of a fade technique. Hints can work very well and our eyes like that play a lot. While not quite the same same a fade effect still touches on that point of how our human brains want  to see faces in random things of nature like smoke, leaves, stones, etc which is instantly engaging if you can already clearly see the face. Lots of fun.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Collect for Fun? Or Profit?
« on: November 18, 2016, 11:34:26 AM »
I never expected collecting cards would make me anything; I expected it to cost me! But...

I recently ordered one deck of what I though was the Bicycle Pluma deck, and I was sent 6 of the Autumn deck, 3 of each color.  I ordered it again (wanting that Pluma deck!), and again I was sent 6 Autumn decks.  I did not accept them and informed the store.  Then the site went out of stock.

Next day, they're back in stock at a different price, so I ordered three.  I was sent 3 half bricks!  Went home and they showed 4 left in stock, so I bought all 4.  Again, I was sent TWO BRICKS of the Autumn deck, one of each color.  I called customer service, and they literally told me there must've been either a mistake, or the warehouse was clearing stock and used an existing sku.  Either way she said, and I'm quoting, "congratulations, enjoy them!"

So, I sold some, and I kept some.  I sold some half bricks on eBay incredibly cheap.  Around twenty bucks, shipping included.  I passed on a great deal, and made a couple bucks.  Now I have a bunch of decks to use, and a bunch to add to my collection.  I really love the cards themselves.  They seem like a thinner stock than Standard RBs.

Great story, I'm on the end of it never working out in my favor when a mistake is made. It's cool to hear a story involving a win fall in stead of the shortfall I've experienced. Also very cool you passed along some of the win to others. I would have sent them a quick email to notify them of the error before ordering more but that's just me. I'm curious, while the Autumns are great decks, did you ever get your Pluma?

73
ah no, please say it isn't so.  :mindf-ck:
