It's been a while since I last posted... Anyway, just got this email:

Quote
We can finally announce the brilliant new MMD Comic Deck by De'vo.  Check out the Coming Soon page on our store here:  http://www.xtremehandz.com/catalog/item/1177704/9554633.htm

This is a brand new deck concept that has never been done before by the USPC or anyone else that we know of.  De'vo has created the world's first Comic Deck series!  An amazing comic book printed on a deck of cards!  The very FIRST issue will be packaged in a very special dual foil and embossed tuck.  This first special edition issue is LIMITED!!  This comic has an amazing storyline with specially designed illusions, weapons and of course brutal action.  A story about magicians and card masters only made sense to be printed on an ultra high quality deck of cards, using De'vo's Blades stock and finish. The comic is printed on the backs of the cards, laid out form an amazing large sized comic using all 56 cards.  You have to see this in front of you!  It's incredible with amazing artwork by comic artist Jay Peteranetz.  The faces have De'vo's Blades face cards, custom Ace and Jokers featuring characters from the comic.  They have been specifically printed to be easily reassembled using a standard suit ranking.  This is the first ever comic deck series created, and this is the LIMITED EDITION FIRST ISSUE.  Don't miss your chance to own a piece of card history!  Coming in November!

The dark, elegant and super hot Dominion deck is printing next week, expected for a November sale.

Thanks for reading,
HL Team

What's this deck about? And there's new that Dominion is coming in the first week as well. So thoughts?

De'vo always says that it's something that has never been done before and it's sooo great and then it's never anything special.

Here is the pic that went with the email:

When I first received the email, I frankly could not believe it. De'vo has pushed the boundaries on what hasn't been done. I believe he has also shown us the tuck box as well. It depicts a four-sided "ninja star" type weapon, which is later used in the story. Unfortunately, I am unable to post it...sooo....

I think this deck will be designed like a comic book with paneled vein the ards and such. It's just an idea, but I think that'd be interesting.

Also, previews will be at NY Comic-Con. Isn't Sean Welhan going?

Anyway, I am intrigued by this deck, and it will be strange if my premonition is correct, because I was planing on making the same type of deck.

You must get some interesting comic books, because none of mine ever had "paneled vein the ards and such"...

So, let me get this straight.  Using De'vo "custom stock and finish" (probably Bee and Magic), they're making a deck that has different art work on every single card back?  So it's like the Fantastique deck, but even more obvious?

Definitely not aiming for the poker or magic crowd, is he?  Not that he ever did...

I really think De'vo's been pushing this whole "war between magic and cardistry" for way too long. The horse is dead and decomposing, but he insists on beating it some more because he thought it saw it flinch.  Probably just a fly, but hey, can't be too sure...

To my knowledge, Sean is going to NYCC.  I live even closer to it than he does, but as much as I'd like to go I can't get the time off right now and I'm light on funds, anyway.  Perhaps next year - maybe I'll even get my wife to cosplay!  But I did tell Sean if he wanted to pop in and say hi while I was at work that he was welcome to do so.

Haha, sorry for all the spelling mistakes. I don't even know what I was trying to type at this point (and I'm 95% sure that I spelled Sean's last name incorrectly).

Although I generally re-read my posts, I was halfway asleep.

Maybe he is planning on making all of the faces different with all the backs the same.

Alright, thanks Don for that. I kinda skimmed the email :P

This deck is very odd. I'm not sure how it will be as a deck (especially when shuffled) but an uncut would look pretty dope.

An uncut would look fabulous. However, this deck isn't meant to be sold as a poker deck. De'vo decided to stray from the path of poker playing cards to make comic book playing cards. And, as Don said earlier, this deck probably had not purpose of appealing to us cardists.

He doesn't make cards to appeal to magicians nor to poker players.  Cardists, or more accurately, XCMers, are his target market.  The image of a man in a top hat (a common old-school magician's trope) getting his head cut off by a flung object (likely a playing card) show more clearly than ever his distaste for magic and the people who practice it.  You'd think he'd get over this some day, but no - he's like a dog with a bone that's been long ago split open and sucked dry of marrow, but he keeps digging his teeth in there looking for some kind of sustenance.  He needs to do something to get over the childishness already.  If he was one of my single buddies, I'd tell him to go have a beer and get laid or something...

I'm probably dropping his decks, after the last Blades deck, to my personal do-not-buy list.  So little money, so many decks, so little reason.  No interest in Dominion, certainly none in this deck.  It's insanely impractical for practically every imaginable application except XCM/cardistry.  It would literally give new definition to "marked deck".  Perhaps it would be even better for him if the backs were all different and the fronts were all one of his trademark Aces of Spades or Jokers...

I confess I am very curious. But considering the images avaiable and all your comments, I believe it's gonna be a love or hate deck. Any date appointed for release?

I stand by my earlier "do not buy" statement.  It's just plain ridiculous.  It doesn't even really qualify as a deck of playing cards, since you could never use them in a game.  Just call it an "XCM" deck and get it over with.

LIMITED EDITION PRO XCM DOMINION DECKS
http://www.xtremehandz.com/catalog/item/1177533/8569078.htm
A brand new deck by De'vo vom Schattenreich with amazing artwork by Prof. D.W. Phelyx Hopkins. We worked together to bring something different in this world of 5 million cards that all look alike. This deck has been carefully designed to capture the eye, both still, and in motion. It is the most beautiful and versatile fanning deck on the market. This deck is mirror back fanning deck, meaning that you can use them normally and not worry about mixing up the back designs. These cards work great for all of your needs, but when you Fan one way and you'll get a beautiful bright red fan, fan the other way and you'll get a black different pattern. The fans were designed to be highly visible both on and off stage. Giant fans are amazing with this deck!
This deck comes with 4 cover cards, 2 blank jokers, and 2 double sided red and black cover cards. Black Spot cards have gradient pips, red cards have standard red pips in the corners only. None of the spot cards have center pips (but the court and aces do). All have this beautiful pattern in the center. De’vo didn't want a "standard" kind of deck with Dominion. He wanted to break the rules and create something truly different and beautiful! This is such an amazing deck in many ways!

LIMITED EDITION DOMINION PORPER CLIPS
http://www.xtremehandz.com/catalog/item/1177533/9336005.htm
Joe Porper clips are well known through-out the world as the best card clip.  They have a special spinal design that keeps your cards flat and protected and were made with the utmost quality.  These black DOMINION Porper’s are the first Joe has produced with a custom mixed black metallic ink and a very special center cut-out that shows off the beautiful red foil seal of the DOMINION deck.  Every Dominion Porper Clip will come with a Limited Edition Dominion deck of cards.

LIMITED EDITION DOMINION DICE
http://www.xtremehandz.com/catalog/item/1177533/9601559.htm
These amazing professional casino dice are the same high quality razor sharp edged dice featured in the world's most famous casinos. These professional dice feature a gold foil spade pip from the Dominion deck in place of the one on every die. Every set of 4 of these amazing dice have matching sets of serial numbers and come in a padded box. Less than 100 of these amazing sets of Casino dice will be available for sale.

MMD – MAGICIANS MUST DIE
http://www.xtremehandz.com/catalog/item/1177533/9230980.htm
1st Edition Comic Deck MMD – Magicians Must Die - with Limited Edition Cover. The World's first comic deck series is here!  This one of a kind deck has been in the works for 10 years, and now De'vo has made this amazing project a reality. Nothing like this has ever been done before by the USPC - or anyone else that we know of. This deck will rock your world! Amazing artwork by comic artist Jay Noble Peteranetz. The same stock and finish as De'vo's Blades, and the back forms a poster sized comic!  Each image was hand drawn and inked.  Many of the weapons/illusions were first created in 3D, then used as reference material for the artist.  This has been a huge project and is a first in the history of cards.  Don't miss out on this Limited Edition cover of the very first edition of this comic!  Check out the promo video here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75WBJG8gzlI
