Thanks for the kind words, Don . . . the term "foto grafis" has been batted around in Photography circles since before my time. Some say it's Latin . . . other say Greek. Some translate it as Controlling Light. Other's say it means to Paint with Light - both are beautiful and apt translation . . . The first time I heard the term, it was during a work shop with one of my favorite shooters, Joe McNally - who has shot for NatGeo and Life Magazine. I am going to back his Etymology of the word - as he's a much better  shooter than I . . .  :) . . . sure hope the foggy origins of the name doesn't distract from the rest of the deck . . .

Scott Carey over at TuckCase.com ran an exclusive yesterday, not only showing off the finished design to the packaging, but also revealing the official name for the cards!

There's nothing I can say as eloquently as Scott's write-up, so I'll just point you to the aricle (http://bit.ly/17J9EwX).

I am so very excited for this and it's taking shape a lot faster than I though it would. Will be launching the Kickstart Campaign early October!

Stay Tuned!!

Great suggestion about the URL . . . I hadn't taken the whole video game thing into consideration, but those are my two favorite colors, so I'll be sticking with them - should some interest bleed over from that market, all the better! Thank you all very much for your feedback . . . very excited about this project!!

Hello all!

I've taken the advice of some posters within the forum and decided to mention my new project here on this thread . . . I am Paul Michael Kane, a designer and photographer. I was humbled earlier this month by earning a 'win' from the Club 808 folks and their "Design-a-Deck" contest. I had been kicking around the idea of doing a deck of cards featuring my photography for a while and when I heard about this contest, I knew it was this that would kick the project into high gear - especially since I found out about it only 3 days before the contest ended! So I whipped this design together using different camera parts in the design concept . . . I am now in the planning stages of finishing this deck for a Kickstarter Campaign. The face of the cards will feature my images (in black and white so there's a consistency to them) and will showcase a new way of card recognition that I think is rather innovative and haven't seen before . . . I plan on taking the rest of June and July to put the deck together (shooting models for the court cards) and then launch the Kickstarter in August . . . Would love feedback on the design and please feel free to follow me on Facebook as I'll be posting updates and 'production vlogs" on there as well . . .

Thanks so much for your time . . .

Introduce Yourself / Re: A brief introduction
« on: June 18, 2013, 03:58:42 PM »
Thanks for the welcome, guys . . . and the kind words. Very excited about this deck. The face of the cards will be images from my existing body of work, converted to black and white for a consistent look. I have a new system of card recognition that I don't think has been done before and is designed to take advantage of the image space while making sure that the card designation is clear. The face cards will be new images, shot just for this deck and will use a few models to denote the court . . . can't wait to show you all more!! Feel free to check out my work at www.paulmichaelkane.com . . . and follow me on Facebook . . . I'll be posting updates there as well . . . it's my hope to get the Kickstarter up and running by August!

Introduce Yourself / A brief introduction
« on: June 18, 2013, 11:37:24 AM »
Hello group!

This is my first time here and I thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself . . . I am a photographer and graphic designer with a love for cards and a very brief career in magic back in my late teens/early twenties. While the magic is now reserved for close friends and family (and the occasional bar bet) my love for cards has always remained. One of my first big gigs as a fine art photographer was work on a deck of 'paranormal cards' called Konxari Cards. I've begun researching the process of a Kickstarter Campaign to help in the creation of a deck of cards based on my photography! I am a member of the Bicycle 808 club and when I found out about their 'design-a-deck' contest, I decided to give it a go - having only found out about it 3 days before the contest deadline, I whipped together a camera related card back - and wouldn't you know it, I won!

So this gives me some much needed confidence to move forward with the deck  . . . a very exciting time! In my research, I came across this forum and thought I'd join up. Looking forward to reading all the posts and such . . .

Thanks for your time . . .
