It definitely looks EPCC Taipei factory printed with the tuckbox and seal sticker. Those are two defining features I've found with how things are done over there EPCC. It's nice to see someone really big do a print with them though I have to say design-wise, I wish there was less white space.

The timing with Gator Backs being released in a few weeks, makes this a tough sell. One would think the opposite. However, we are talking about two blaine decks at extreme opposite ends of the design spectrum. Instead of complementing each other, Gators are going to suck the wind out of the sails of this EPCC deck like a vacuum.

Looks like there's more info on the deck on EPCC's official website:

"Microsoft-Blaine

Shhhh! This special deck was produced by Microsoft just for one party where David Blaine performed."

Which goes to show that I need enough money to get a custom deck for a special party with a magician.

I definitely don't see that as the case.  I seem to recall the timing being similarly tight between the release of the White Lions Black Label and the Silver Split Spades - neither deck suffered, and the design differences between them are actually very similar to the differences between this "Microsoft party" deck and the Gatorbacks.

I don't think one will cannibalize the other's sales.  If anything, I see it as providing people will more incentive to check them out - because they can combine shipping, getting two decks at once for less than it would cost to get them on separate occasions.

I looked at zoomed versions of those images.  The front says "LIMITED EDITION OF" and what appears to be the number 2015, as odd a number as that sounds.  The back reads "------ MAGIC", where the six-letter word appears to begin with perhaps an "L" and end with either "EY" or "CY".  Could be the word "LEGACY" but I wouldn't bet on that being the case.

If this is only getting teased now, perhaps it's not due a release for a few months if the Gatorbacks timeline is anything to go by? Then again, perhaps not.

I'm happy its an EPCC deck, but the back design doesn't do much for me personally.

The Microsoft Party makes this an event deck. That does positively change the perception of the deck and the collectibility of it.

I would not go as far as comparing this to the "white lions" when using it to support the release timing with another deck (silver edition SS). These are not on the same level as those decks or Gators. I'm not trying to be negitive toward the design, I simply don't think it will do as well as it could had Gators not been anticipated soon. Sure people probably will buy both if available. I believe that has more to do now with its event collectibility then it's design.

This is the first time I'm seeing a back design for a DB deck where I'm thinking "boring"... which is a shame, because I'm a massive fan of DB as well as the Taipei factory.

If the print run is extremely small and the deck is going to be difficult to obtain, then it probably will show up on the bay of the e for big numbers (kind of like the Sharps by LPCC).
With this signature I'm following the example set by Fes: There is only ONE letter L in my display name. "Holly" is a female name... and I'm a bearded guy who's into weightlifting. There's nothing feminine about me brother!

well... do we think they are going to be for sale?

According to DB FB page, his last entry is him on stage (https://www.facebook.com/DavidBlaine)

saying...
Quote
Amazing time, thank you team and thank you Microsoft

With people commenting, "thank you for an amazing show"

Apparently it was an intern event for the XBOX 1 launch, there are pictures of him doing his underwater stunt for passers by on twitter

the interns all got an XBOX 1 as part of their "gift" why not a DB deck along with it?

Easy enough.  Just find your nearest time machine, go back maybe a year and get a gig as an intern at Microsoft.  Just try not bumping into yourself in this time line because you'll probably create an explosion that will destroy the fabric of time and space - not to mention that awkward feeling that you've bumped into someone who knows all about you...

EPCC has had other decks that aren't for sale.  They gave them away instead!  Keep your eyes open.

For a souvenir deck like that, odds are that most are sitting on display on someone's deck in Redmond, Washington...

If you owned a really cool and unique deck that commemorated the day you got to see David Blaine perform up close and personal, would YOU want to put it on eBay?  :))

The creator is probably the same man who designed all the other Blaine decks as well as the recent "Whispering Imps" project for Chris Chelko - Mark Stutzman.

It's all about one's tastes.  To me, assuming the faces are the same as David uses on all of his decks in recent releases, it's a mostly-standard design, only slightly tweaked to make him and his friends and family court cards and he obviously chose to go with a simple, elegant back design for this one-time-only performance.  Some people call that boring, I call it a perfect deck for performing magic and cardistry and playing poker.  I don't think that David's ever done a full-custom deck, just as how they're rather rare from Theory 11 - most of what they make uses the USPC standard faces, albeit with new coloring.  Their most popular deck at present is probably the Monarchs, and those faces are as standard as the summer solstice day is long.

And there's that part about the one-time-only event.  For all we know, the deck was commissioned by Microsoft for their little shindig and David was limited as to what he could change about the design.

I agree there is something beautiful about the classic, and for magicians, cardists and poker players the purest is probably best, but not for me, I like my decks to be like roller coasters, not merry-go-rounds.  :)
