US6i in Hochman states the first narrow non RMP Ace of Spades was introduced around 1921.  That should be 1927 and not 1921.

1986

H date code and lack of registered trademark symbol on the cards and $2.00 book would make this 1986.

That a c1918 USPCC salesman?s sample book I picked up a while ago. The seller was overseas, Greece, I think.

Ebay is probably your best bet.  Not sure how many eyes would see your decks if you posted them here - though I might be interested in a couple of the decks you just posted.

As for value, a lot depends on how quickly you want to sell them.  You can do an auction and hope that a couple of interested folks show up and bid up the price, or you can do a buy it now and be prepared to wait.  I just sold a Kalamazoo Aristocrat deck on eBay that I was posted for at least 6 months.

You can always check the sold listings on ebay to get an idea of what your decks might be worth, too.

Make that 1943, not 1963.  I did not realize that Bee used the smaller courts going back to the 1930s, so your deck is most likely from 1943 given back design, NYCCC on Ace of Spades, and type of date stamp.

You?ve got the shrunken courts which USPCC started using in 1954, so your deck is 1963.

Check out the USPCC dating chart over at bicyclecards, https://bicyclecards.org/uspcc-dating-code/

With date code ?E?, you can say 1943 or 1963.  I don?t think Bee still made that back by 1983.

Take a look at the court cards and post a pic. Might be able to narrow down more for you.

Not quite a price list, but a 1914 Wyeth Hardware catalog page with a great selection of American Bank Note decks

I think there are enough examples out there now to show that letter code dating began before 1904.  I use Joseph Pierson?s updated chart found here:  https://bicyclecards.org/uspcc-dating-code/

SX12 - Los Leones Naipes #71 USPC - Hochman lists this as a 40 card deck for playing hombre, but I have a 48 card deck c1897, so maybe 48 card deck was added later.

SX36 - New York World's Fair, 1939-40

This was actually a Kem Card Sales Corp deck, and not Kem Playing Cards.  Here are the red and green decks in color, along with the special case for the 1939 New York World's Fair.  Deck backs show the Trylon and Perisphere.

Here's another puzzler, and I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen either of these decks, or if they were ever produced.  I've got what looks to be a printing samples or proofs for a tuck box for a 525 Aristocrat Multi-Color deck and a No. 06 Square Deal, both from Russell Playing Card Co.  Anybody ever seen one of these or have a deck?

Hey Don,

I think all of the newspaper advertising beginning from the 1930s conclusively establishes that Studs were a thing back in the 1930s.  Also, the 10 cent tax stamp is only from the 1930s. The large courts were only in use until 1954 at USPCC.  No zip codes on the deck as I showed all sides of the tuck.

c1936 Walgreens Stud Playing Cards - made by USPCC - Note the lack of "With Two Jokers" and "Reg. U.S. Pat. Off." on the front of the tuck box.  I think only this first version lacked each of these.

And here are the Spade courts, Ace and Joker.  See above post for all sides of tuck for 1936 Stud Playing Cards.

I got my hands on a 1936 Stud deck, and this seems to be the place to share Stud info.  Both sides have "STUD PLAYING CARDS"

10 Cent Tax Stamp and "W" date code make these 1936.  Earliest Stud deck I've ever seen.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: How old is this Tally Ho deck?
« on: April 24, 2023, 03:52:19 PM »
Good point.  Another thing I noticed on your tuck box are the two small slits on the top for the flap.  On Bicycle decks, these small slits were introduced around 1994 based on my Bicycle reference collection.  I imagine they were introduced around that time for Tally-Ho, so that would support your dating of the deck.

Due to the lack of the registered trademark symbol on the tuck, I?d say it was 1990 or a bit before. But let us know if you open it to find out for sure.
