Title: Mana Deck
Post by: sinsandman on October 29, 2011, 09:33:23 AM
This one is kind of flying under the radar except to those who are following it and anxiously awaiting its release. Let's here your thoughts and opinions!

I heard about it for a while, but I didn't plan to buy it until today someone told me the meaning of "Mana".
Then it's starting to get my interest/

I was sold as soon as I saw the joker. I knew if the joker detail was that good, the actual cards must be insane.

This is a deck I'm really looking forward to. Love the cardist angle of the joker, and the back is so pretty and elegant. Hope it releases in December like he says to I can add it to the collection.

Aside from Vortex, this is the deck that has me the most. Vortex is beyond original...whereas Mana is pure elegance and class. Both decks, as I see it, will make people think harder before they put out a deck of junk.

Erik Mana did not design the cards, but they are made "by" him in the sense that I would imagine he is funding them.

I love the design but I honestly preferred it before they changed the backs to silver. It was innovative in its original coloring, and now the colors are very bland.

I do love the Jokers and the actual patterning used on the back. =]

I didnt understand that contest. i mean who is to say which information is the correct information? i mean anyone could have just wiki searched the jack of diamonds and found out some kind of information.
Title: Re: Mana Deck
Post by: JMMJ on November 03, 2011, 11:03:23 PM
The idea was to see who could tell them that the fastest regardless of how, I didn't know that off the top of my head (However, I used Wikipedia to get a general sense, not to write my entry, I used a ton of other sources for that.)

The Mana Deck is delayed :(

I received in an official email today:

"Hi everyone!

It pains me to share this information with you all. Needless to say, I'm the one most upset and disappointed about this.

Today, USPCC has informed us about their delay in producing the Mana deck. As it turns out, they were not satisfied with the quality of the print and said that it did not meet their standards and our approved proofing. So they are now starting from scratch hoping to fix this problem. That means USPCC will not deliver as promised for November 28. Instead, they are trying to meet a deadline of December 13 or sooner, which pushes our release date into early next year. *sigh*

I know many of you have been waiting for this deck to come out and I want to apologize for this delay, even though it's completely out of my hands right now. Even I'm getting a little anxious!

The only thing assuring me right now is that USPCC is working hard to make it right and to make sure that the product they deliver is nothing less than perfect and of the highest quality. And despite they're delay, I have to thank USPCC for their dedication to their quality of product.

I can't say this enough - I'm am truly sorry for the delay and I very much appreciate your patience! Thank you all for your support!

Sincerely,
Erik Mana

This stinks, but I'm kind of glad. Since it is being released next year, I may have a chance of raising more money to get some more of these beauties.

Haha, I'm happy too.
Even if I don't have plan for this deck now.

For me, not releasing a new deck is good news, releasing it is bad news (bad to my money)
I'm using my savings since I got myself into cards collections.
Really gotta  stop or reduce.

It is a really sweet looking deck.  The delay is a good thing, I feel - haven't some of us been griping about all the new decks that are hitting the stores within a few weeks?  The checkbook can only take so much damage, y'know...
 ;D

This is definitely a good thing! Especially with all the new releases recently. The Mana deck is something I have been very interested in for awhile and this way I will have more money in my collection bankroll to work with.

Hi everyone!

Just got a recent update on the decks from USPCC. It's finally done!! As promised they have completed production on the decks and have passed their Q1 quality control.

As mentioned in my last email, this release will definitely be pushed into early 2012. We are expecting a 4-6 week lead time for delivery of these decks which means a target release of February.

Again, we're sorry for the delay and we're very thankful for all of your patience and support so far. All your emails have been awesome and we really appreciate it!!

As usual, we will keep everyone updated as news to comes to us. Thank you again guys!!

Best regards,
Erik

I'll probably have more money in time, I might get a few to "test them out." The design doesn't look that bad, I'm glad they didn't put up a Kickstarter run, I pledge for like 10 decks from Kickstarter, and I like only got one so far.

Mana Playing Cards just posted this:
"I'd like to clarify to all contest winners about the early release draw. This draw was for contest winners only because each of you have already won at least one deck. This draw was to choose who gets their deck early. IT IS NOT for an added deck. So if you've only won one deck and your name was drawn for the early release then you get your one deck early. I hope this clarifies things. Thanks guys."

So for me, this means I only won one deck of them.... but I will receive it early!  ;D

Those court cards blow my mind! A lot of people really liked the jokers and I remember people talking about how it was those two cards that sold them on this deck. The jokers didn't do that for me and I was still not super excited about this deck... until I saw the court cards.

I love how each court card has a certain coloring depending on it's suit. I would have to say that the clubs are my favorite closely followed by the spades. I really haven't seen anything like this on any other deck, at least to this degree. Also the metallic ink gives it a really good "POP!"

That's not shading - that's silver ink!

I'm itching to see the rest of the deck - will it be bog standard, or somehow modified?

BTW: did you guys happen to notice Marcus was on that list as well?

Well since the pips look standard, I would be guessing the court cards are custom in their "family/suit" colorings and then the backs and jokers are also custom. You can also see each ace is custom (as we've seen on a few other decks in similar fashion).

Besides that I would be surprised to see anything else be modified

The deck back really reminds me of classic Rider Back because of the two circles of gray/black in the field of silver.  I'd buy this over the BeDeceived deck any day!

because of that i want to get more then just a few mana decks that way i dont have to worry about go through a bunch of them

Have you considered trying some plastic decks?  The Karnival Death Heads hold up pretty well, and the Ace standard edition has a surface that feels like paper treated with fanning powder.  The Death Heads are a little tricky to find since for some bizarre reason they haven't posted a direct link to them on the Karnival Cards site - look for the topic on this board about them.  Ace plastic decks are sold at Barnes and Noble Bookstores in my area, and probably in the rest of the country as well.

How many are people planning on getting of this deck? Thought it would be interesting to see with this being one of the most anticipated releases of the year.

How many are people planning on getting of this deck? Thought it would be interesting to see with this being one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
I'm sure most of us are going to get this deck. I don't think I've heard anyone say they don't like it

Well, I plan on getting 6 of these because I have to still save for all of the other decks that are coming out

Oh gotcha! This is the deck I've been saving for so I'm going to get quite a few of these (haven't decided how many yet). From the pictures I've seen so far, I think this could easily become one of my favorite decks. The pictures of the court cards alone are incredible.

What others decks are you saving up for? (sorry to go off topic for a second)

Well, T11 and E will always have new decks coming out. D&D has been pumping out limited decks like crazy. And theres also the Galvanic Tendril, Aether, Seasons, Blades: Blood Edition, and others

I'm planning on getting at least 2 of these decks. They look outstanding, and I adore the court card recolourations.
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but where can we buy these once they're released? I haven't found any information about sellers of the deck. If I'm being an idiot and missing something really obvious here, feel free to start yelling at me!

It wasn't a dumb question. I don't think they have said where they will be selling it. But I am assuming it will be on their site: http://www.manaplayingcards.com/

Oh, okay. That's what I thought, but after this long conversation, I figured someone must have asked this question before me. Or at least I figured the website may have a link to where it would be sold, or they would have announced that they would be selling it on their website or whatever. I thought it was so obvious that I was missing it, but obviously not. :P

The Mana Cards site will likely sell out fast if the demand is what is appears to be.  Expect to see them popping up on eBay and in the after-market shops, either way.

I saw this thread awhile ago and i liked the cards. I just looked over it again, and I literally got butterflies because I didn't truly realize how beautiful everything is in this deck! I'll be getting at least a brick  :D :D  The court cards are great with the metallic ink and I love how the backs fade into different colors at different angles but they have the dark circles which never change. Amazing.

if u think about the price, and the things that we have learned through this forum, that price seems just about right really. given the quantity printed, the customization, and the metallic inks on the cards 9ish/deck sounds fine to me.

ya it sucks; i'd rather they be like 4 a deck, but obviously that's crazy talk.

Look at the retail cost of a lot of the small-run small-company playing cards that have been coming out.  $10 a deck for something with this level of work may not be what everyone wants to hear, but $10 is not out of the ballpark, either, particularly if you factor the high level of demand this deck is likely to have (which I don't really think they did, honestly - they could sell for a bit more, otherwise).  Buy in bulk, save a few bucks.  Or wait for the1eyedjack or BMPokerWorld to get them and use their 10% off codes.  Personally, I wouldn't wait - this looks more like an early Smoke and Mirrors in the sense that it's going to sell out fast and go up in value almost immediately.

I realize that they are not extremely high but, I do think that they made them $10 because they knew they would sell at $10 and that is good business on their part but it costs just over $100 for a brick of these. But I do think they will go up in price fast, so I need to decide how many I am going to buy :)

Well you are correct on it just recoloring but it is some damn good recoloring! It may not be custom faces but I love how each suit has it's own coloring. It's a little more impressive than just all the court cards having two new colors.

Well ten bucks isn't that bad. As many have mentioned it's in the ballpark if you compare it to many other decks. Also it's the companies first deck so it's a pretty fair price. One benefit I see coming from the price is that not as many people will buy bricks upon bricks upon bricks. With the high demand this price will allow more people to get some of them.... hopefully!

Personally, I wouldn't count on that.  This deck has VERY strong word of mouth and people are practically salivating for it.  This and the Seasons deck look to be the two big hits of early 2012.  Even at that price, I can imagine people buying by the brick and reselling at a profit when the designer sells out of them.

While this is true for some it will be a financial issue for others. I would love to buy a couple bricks for personal use and trades in the future, but I can't afford that. I know there is a lot of word of mouth but from the past few comments I can see that some people aren't getting as many because of the price. I know there will still be the brick buyers but there will be less of them I think.

I've been hearing a lot of "I'm not buying this because I'm saving up for..." and the last part is usually either Mana, Seasons or both.  Honestly, can you think of a better deck from any major brand that's been as talked up as this one and Seasons?  As nice as Vortex and Americana and Actuators, etc. all are, people keep coming back to these two releases and saying "I'm saving up for these."

I think that many "brick buyers" who've gotten shut out of certain hot decks in the past will be gunning for these with laser guidance.  Without doubt, the resellers will be after them with both barrels blazing.

Yeah there are going to be the big resellers that will still do that. Many people mentioned they were saving up for this deck (including myself) and then with the price the comments have shown that they aren't getting more than a brick. That isn't true for everybody, but it's what I've noticed. I know I won't be getting as many as I "saved up for".
These will still be off the shelves as quick as they were put on the shelves, there's no doubt. I'm just saying at over $100 a brick these are pricey and I think for the average buyer that will lower the amount they buy. I would love to buy some extra for trades and reselling, but I just can't throw that many around like that.

I was talking to john about this. (john from the discourse)

He thinks that the Mana deck won't sell out very fast because "all that metallic ink isn't good for magic, and the stock and finish just isnt ZOMG amazing for flourishing, and it isnt a USPC name so a bunch of collectors won't get it"

I disagree with him because the design is beautiful, everyone likes metallic ink, the stock should be able to handle the amount of ink, there are only 4000 printed, and we've known about this deck for a while and everyone has been saying how much they want them and that they are saving up for them

Yeah I'm sure they'll sell out in minutes! Isn't this a USPCC deck, just not a Bicycle brand name deck?
The stock should be fine because there really isn't that much ink. They are keeping it a white card so there isn't the need for black ink. Also it's only recolored so there should be any more ink on it than a normal bike (maybe a bit more). While John may be right about the metallic ink not being great for magic, I think the beauty of the deck will still make it worth it.

I agree with what youre thinking MagicAddictz, these will be sure fire sellers. I'm just curious as to how quick these will sell out  ;)

There's not an insane amount of metallic ink on these, and there are enough metallic ink decks out now that perform excellently (cough-ARTIFICE-cough-GARGOYLES-cough-GOLDARCANE-cough) that it shouldn't be an issue.  Even the Premier deck, with all-metallic backs and faces, still performs nicely with Magic Finish on it.  You'd be hard pressed to find a deck with more shiny ink on it, that's certain.

Even if people are balking at the price and saying they're buying less than planned, there will be a big run on these by dealers, and the price will likely go up a few bucks in the aftermarket - and people will still buy them even at those prices because they got shut out at the MSRP.

It can be a risky bet, thinking that the value will double that quickly.  I still have Fulton's Clip Joint and White Arrco decks lying around that I thought I'd resell for a decent profit...  It ain't happening any time soon!  Though I did catch a break on the Black Crowns...

The fultons and the white arrco decks wern`t hyped as much though. The clips joints were D&D so those obviously wern`t going to go up. I am surprised the white arrcos didn`t but the Mana deck is wanted by so many people and there is so little supply. The Black crowns were $30 a couple days after they sold out and then once the new bricks were released they dropped a bit but not too much. I am guessing the same will happen with the Mana. They will sell out, then people will list them for a nice sum on ebay. People who missed them will buy before they think the price will go up. Then people will slow down on buying them and they will go down in price for a bit then rise again.

Yeah Aaron hit the nail right on the head! This deck was way more hyped than the FCJ and the White Arrcos!! Both were very nice deck and I'm glad that I have some of both, but the demand isn't as crazy as they will be for these. With the small supply and the huge demand it's going to be an insane rush and I'd expect to see a nice amount be asked for them once they sell out.

No one knows, they are waiting for the decks to ship them some time in February.
So, it should be sold in March.

Usually with the USPCC, the decks are shipped later than expected, and I think they will be shipped to the buyers around late March.

It depends on how many you want to buy. If you are going to get one deck then it's probably not going to cost you more than $15 bucks so you could spend more on others before the release. If you are trying to get a brick of Mana that's going ot cost over $100 so you might want to save up. It depends on how much you are trying to spend on cards...

@Frost - That kind of post is kind of useless. It all depends on how much money you have and how much money you want to spend.
As for me, I'm planning on buying no more than 3.

As many of you know, I have the deck already because I won it in a contest. Its great and all and I love the design. But the feel of it is really nothing special... I will probably only get 2 or 3 more.

Just by feel, definitely style. Aristocrat with Magic Finish is much better that Bicycle 325 with Magic Finish.

I think $9.95 is just for the deck, without shipping. And yes you'll have to pay for international shipping. As for the shipping cost, I don't think it'll be over $10 for a deck or two. But definitely cost more if you're ordering in bricks. I'd advice those in the States to order together and ship them within the country instead of each of you making your own purchases.

Update!
"Hi everyone. Just giving you guys an update on the decks. We were expecting our shipment to arrive this week and we have just been notified by the shipping company that it has been delayed another week, which means our release date will be pushed to first or second week of March. We're very sorry for the delay, but its totally out of our hands right now. Believe me, if we had the power to ship these decks faster, we would have done it months ago. I hate waiting just as much as the next guy. We'll keep you updated as information become available to us. Thank you for your patience! -EM"

almost 10 bucks for a deck, that's steep! but I really love the design!  :-[  please go easy on the shipping.  ;)  Hmm, considering it to be rather on the steep side, what do you guys think about the value? Is is worth ten bucks? physical qualities apart for now since we haven't gotten the deck. Unless you won it from a contest or something and got it before us.. I think these are worth 8-9 bucks but not 10. I love the recoloring of the court cards but they are not fully custom. Overall it's a beautiful deck and I'm sure it'll be nice quality but it doesn't justify the price tag. That's just my opinion

I agree, I love the recolouring and all but it doesn't seem to be quite in the nine plus bucks range, I'll say seven to eight?

Yeah it seems that they are just pricing it that high because the rest of the market has been upping the price lately. With the high demand they really can price it pretty high and still see sales. It sucks but that's just the way it is

Everyone's hyped up about this deck. $10 isn't a big problem, it'll sell out quick. But do keep in mind that its used quite a bit of metallic ink, and the design is definitely one of the best these days. I'd say $10 is a little high, but fair.

Its not custom.... just back, aces, and jokers. Recolored court cards.

Wouldn't that be considered custom? Or you consider a deck custom if the court cards and pips are all redesigned?

I consider a custom deck, fully custom meaning court cards, pips, all faces, back, box, jokers and all other aspects of the deck.

I would say that custom means box, jokers, ace, and something done (in this case recoloration) to the court cards.

Okay that's really not too bad! I thought it was much worse. So a brick is just a little over $100. I think I'm going to get 7 of these. An uncut would look great too but I bet they will be a little too pricey for my liking

Exactly!! When I order cards I always try to keep it like that. I'll get 7 (1 to open and six to keep sealed) or 13 (a open and a brick to keep sealed). Granted I usually end up using those 6 or 12 later or I sell/trade them. It's just how I do it haha

Seriously!! If the seasons, Harlequin, second deck from encarded, maybe the S&M V7s, and many more weren't all coming out I would totally get a brick but I can't get that many right now. Maybe I'll pick up a few more from some resellers if I really like the deck once I get a good feel for it.

Seasons is due soon, yes.  Harlequin and Aurum are still in the planning stages, haven't even started fundraising - you have a while.  S&M v7 - you'll see the hype machine coming from a mile away; the engine may have started but it's not even in gear yet.

In other words, unless you're really scraping your pennies together to get decks, you should be in decent shape to get the decks you really want.

Amen to that!

Now to talk about the Mana deck, I feel with so many decks coming out these days we need ones that stick out, and THESE stick out. Although no custom faces, pips, or court cards, I like that because I feel it makes this deck more classic and elegant, and for some reason remind me of the Victorian era...I'm not sure why though considering that I know almost nothing about it.

I'm drawn to the intricate elegance of the deck. While part of me always wants for a complete custom deck, the Mana does look so nice and the traditional faces do work with the overall theme. It's understated and very classy, and I think will be a great deck to hold. I already won a Mana deck, and that along with Seasons are my top picks of the near future. I look forward to studying them both.

Well it's more the amount of spending. Spending x amount of money on cards is the same if you do it all at once or if you do it over a year. That's my main point haha. I'm not trying to rack up credit card debt or spend all my money on deck haha

True enough.  But if you're earning money every week, dropping a large wad all at once can be more difficult than spending that same amount broken into smaller payments over weeks.  Put aside $5 a week for a "card budget" and in a year the total would be $260 minus whatever you spent of it on cards...  Spend the same $260 in a single week, and it will make a dent in most people's budgets.

Well, if someone's sticking to new releases only and hasn't been bitten by the vintage deck bug, it's not an entirely unreasonable budget, especially if one is choosy about which decks to buy.

Believe me, it's not like I stick to that kind of budget, either.  You don't get over a thousand decks in barely more than a year on $5 a week...

With all the hype, it would appear very likely.

If the shipping is preventing people from purchasing these decks, why not do something like the Canadian's are doing? Someone trusted (like Alex or Don) could ask everyone what they want, pay them in advance (so people don't back out after he has purchases them) and we could request how many decks, uncuts, and signed paraphernalia that we desire, we all split shipping, and everyone wins. How does that sound?

There were a lot of words about possible Mana’s server crash. I am not an expert in this question and I believe Curt or other experts will correct me – it’s an expensive treat to have a strong server. I doubt Erik has such resources like D&D or Ellusionist. So it can be a clever move to propose pre-orders and possibly reduce appropriate risk in such way.
International shipment of American decks is often pricey (especially per two decks). So I suppose abovementioned shipment costs (which still have to be confirmed officially) surprised more US insiders than other international customers. I believe bricks and collective orders can reduce this problem a little.
I wonder what price of this deck will be in the secondary market. Black Crown has standard Arrco faces, standard AoS and Jokers (standard for this series of decks), 5000 run, US shipment → current US prices: $18-25.
Actually I’d like to say several words about Mana Deck and other USPCC’s “metallic” decks. I like Mana Deck and I think that it’s the best sufficiently classic “metallic” deck up to date (it’s about beauty not about its handling, stock, etc). I’ll explain my point of view.
I know such USPCC’s “metallic” decks: Gold Arcane, Brimstone, Fantastique, Theory11’s decks, Black Crown and 2 new CARC decks, BMPokerworld’s Premier Back.
 1) Black Crown and 2 new CARC decks are nice decks but they have only “metallic” backs and in general are similar to other decks from appropriate series;
 2) Gold Arcane and Brimstone are quite specific decks (like GA and really hate 2 faces in Brimstone :) );
 3) Fantastique and  Theory11’s decks are also nice decks BUT THEY HAVE ANNOYING MISPRINTS (check Queen♣, Jack ♣, King♥,  Jack♥, Jack♦ carefully). As I can see on 52cartes’ and MagicAddictz’s photos Mana Deck doesn’t have these misprints;
 4) BMPokerworld’s Premier Back doesn’t have abovementioned misprints but it’s a matter of taste and less customized.

It is too expensive and unreasonable. I may send 1-4 decks with a priority parcel that costs $8.5 to US and CA with tracking number and will be delivered in 6-8 days. If they charge $20 for 1-3 decks and will take 2-3 weeks (this doesn't sound like airmail) to US, I have to worry the shipping fee to TW now.

Don't worry digipunk shipping to other asian countries is much cheaper compared to other countries. I believe the prices would be 13-17usd and maybe he will ship via EMS, so it will only take 7-10 days or he can find some cheaper alternatives on shipping. Btw here in the Philippines, air parcel cost almost as EMS, :(  so it is a better choice to ship  using EMS.

I preordered also.  One deck I won plus three decks I bought.  $30 for EMS shipping.  This is NOT cheap shipping by a long shot, but the Philippines are an island nation and not exactly next door to the US.  It's on par with what I paid for shipping of the Bicycle Clot decks when I bought them out of Taiwan.

In fact, Clot is from Hong Kong, not Taiwan :P :P
Taiwan PO provides Airmail (like USPS first-class mail) and Priority Parcel (like USPS Priority Flat Rate Box), these 2 shipping methods are cheaper than EMS and effecient (and trackable). Normally we don't need to use EMS. For example, shipping 4 decks to US costs $8.5 and takes 6-8 days, and it is trackable until it is delivered.

I still feel $30 for 4 decks with EMS is overcharged, unless insurance is included. I just looked up the table, from TW to US with EMS, $18.5 for packages under 0.5Kg and $23 for packages under 1Kg.

There seems to be many Asians in the card collecting community... Being that their economy seems to be a bit stronger than ours, it is only natural that they take advantage of this and produce some decks... What is troubling is that the decks are produced here in the United States and then shipped to Asia, only to be shipped back to the U.S. for an absolutely ridiculous amount of money... If the companies were smarter they'd partner up with someone in the states... They would sell a lot more decks if they charged reasonable shipping...  Everyone needs to set limits for themselves and as much as i like the cards, I'm coming to a point in my collecting where I'm not going to waste money (in this case on shipping charges)...

@jmrock, the world and the market is so large, decks are not for US buyers only. You know USPC is simply a manufacturer, they should work under the contract. The owner of Mana decks is now in the Philippines, this is the fact. Non-US collectors used to pay higher shipping fees than US collectors and always need to decide to buy or not to buy, now Mana decks simply treat all collectors equal :P :P :P

However, I also think the shipping fee for Mana decks is too high and it's unreasonable to restrict the shipping method to only EMS. I don't need to pay so much when I buy decks from US sellers  :-\

Yes you may pay higher shipping fees but the point someone else was trying to make is that these Mana decks are being shipped from the US to the Phillipines and then many of them are being shipped right back to the US or Canada. A complete waste of time and money in my opinion, it would be better for them if they had an American seller that is for sure.

After much talk and debate, we have decided to add more value to this pre-order sale.
  • Uncut sheet giveaway - When we close the pre-order form, we will enter each pre-order customer name into a raffle draw for one uncut sheet. And we will ship that uncut sheet along with the winner's order.
  • Upon official release the Mana deck SRP will increase to $10.95. That means that this pre-order sale is your chance to get your deck at only $9.95 or cheaper. After the pre-order sale, the deck goes up to $10.95, so take advantage of this pre-order sale.

  • We're all excited and ready for March 5. Thank you again for all your support!

    Best regards,
    The Mana Deck Team

So, I have a chance at getting a free uncut.  But anyone who didn't win a contest gets to pay a HIGHER price, IN ADDITION to costly shipping.  Not cool.
This is retarded >:(  Why would they want to make only their contest winners happy? Who would decide to sell decks for more money to people who are already sad they didnt win a contest, have extreme shipping costs and pre-sell a bunch of decks to the people who already have decks >:( >:( >:(  I really wanted some of these but will be skipping them now >:(

Unless I'm mistaken, the offer starting later today/tomorrow (depending where you are) is still the pre-sale.

ie. The sale in about 21 hours time will be at the cheaper price, but any further sales will be at the higher price.  I doubt there'll be many interested by then... unless they artificially limit the pre-sale to a small percentage of the decks they have.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

I got the email too.
So, I think they are talking about the 5th march pre order.
The pre order you get is the special one I guess.

It's for the contest winners. We could pre-order right now before everyone else on the 5th. It's not too much difference, just a few days. You'll get your chance tomorrow!

Yeah we were talking about their last email (see Don's post). We know about the pre-orders and everything. Don was just a little confused with their last email.

Yeah, I think you're right.  I assumed it was for contest winners since I got the "pre-pre-order" email.  But since non-contest winners are receiving them as well, they must be offering this to everyone.

Well, folks, if you want to get them cheaper than retail, this is your chance.  I could be wrong, but I think the larger orders are more economical not only because of a "% off" price, but also because they'll get cheaper shipping on a per-deck basis.  But still, it's not cheap.

Too many expensive decks out now.  The shipping issue on this isn't helping, either - now I know exactly how Asian and European collectors feel about new decks released in America!

More news on the Mana deck - and many of you won't like it.  I got this as a contest winner for one deck, just arrived in my mailbox earlier this morning.  Forgive any formatting glitches - the Discourse is grumpy...

Hi Friends,

Since our last email to everyone announcing the pre-order sale, we've had floods of replies excited about the pre-order sale. We're happy to see that you're all stoked about this.

Who would decide to sell decks for more money to people who are already sad they didnt win a contest, have extreme shipping costs and pre-sell a bunch of decks to the people who already have decks >:( >:( >:(  I really wanted some of these but will be skipping them now >:(
That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard! Im a contest winner and I still think that it should be the people who HAVEN'T won contests that can preorder already.

I will skip them mainly because of the price of the deck and the shipping method they use. $10 may buy one of collectible OOP decks here, even those secret Skulkor brothers sell their decks for $7 each. If I paid $9.95 or $10.95 for a newly released deck, I would think myself stupid. On the other hand, I know EMS is expensive, but... don't think these decks need to use EMS to trace.

Guys if you read over the past couple pages you'll see that this ISN'T true!! There was some confusion there, but it is for all those who pre-order not just the contest winners. Everybody got that email, not just contest winners. It refers to March 5th the date of open pre-orders for everybody. So they aren't screwing anybody over.

Yeah I'm sure there will be some resellers. Maybe a couple less since it's an international seller, so there will be less US resellers. Although I'm sure there will still be some!
Title: Re: Mana Deck
Post by: cosmicsecret on March 05, 2012, 12:46:55 AM
Yes,there will be resellers for sure.
Depending on how fast they will sell out,the prices will raise quickly.
I think they will start at $15-18 USD  a deck at the US reselllers.
High demand => high prices

And another yes to how we Int. buyers feel when ordering from E,T11 and D&D (the most overpriced shipping i have ever paid so far).
Title: Re: Mana Deck

D&D is high around the board too. funny how i just ordered a 10+ pound package from bodybuilding.com and the shipping was 7.98 but if i order a brick from D&D the shipping is 15$
Title: Re: Mana Deck
Post by: cosmicsecret on March 05, 2012, 01:23:08 AM
... but if i order a brick from D&D the shipping is 15$
maybe because they are washing their hands very cleanly and then they´re using D&D hand lotion before
handling your order.i mean this justifies the extra cash right?  :P
I paid for shipping a brick from D&D to germany 32USD. (value of cards+shipping = total plus 19% of  the total for customs on top of that)
yeah its fun ordering from the USA :D

but let´s get back to topic.still no shipping calculation email from Mana.

I doubt they'll adjust the costs. They are shipping from out of the US so it's going to be more. I'm sure they have already figured out their shipping stuff and they most likely won't take the time to go back and change it all. Which is shame

I'm going to be one of the people who hold back for now. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up two of these from a UK seller. The deck is expensive as it is. Most of us would bear that and say 'but it's so pretty!'. But their shipping prices are unreasonable. I've shipped books all over the world and it's never been as much as what they're charging for something smaller and lighter.

I went to the PHiLLi Postoffice website and checked the prices

They are overcharging me at least 17USD for shipping and in worst case even 30USD to much.

It's called "handling fee" :mindf-ck: :mindf-ck: :mindf-ck:
I agree charging reasonable handling fees is necessary for those companies, but I also think it should be a fixed amount for however decks we buy, instead of a fixed rate that increases the fee proportionally to the number of decks. In fact, the more decks we buy, the more discount they should provide.
Title: Re: Mana Deck
Post by: Kanped on March 05, 2012, 06:33:59 AM
In order for them to do that, digi, they'd have to overcharge for shipping low numbers of decks; it costs more to sip heavier things, so the price increases along with the number of decks; it HAS to.  The shipping does seem to be inflated in this case, though.

Honestly, I thought these looked cool when they were first revealed but I've tota;;y gone off them; it's really just a re-colour, after all.  Doubt I'm getting any.

This is why I complained about the shipping fee of Mana decks.

The weight of a deck is about 90-100g, so:

2 brick package = 2.5-3.0Kg

$80 is too crazy...
If you gave me $80 for shipping, I could send 6 bricks to you via EMS. haha :t11: :t11:

When a person sends many packages once, there are further discount for him: $333+ is 5%, $666+ is 10%, $2000+ is 15%, $3,333+ is 20%, and $5,000+ is 25%. Well, I know every country has different EMS pricing, it's meaningless to post this.

no matter how you added it they are overpricing there shipping. Not even the big companies charge as much as they do for regular shipping. they quoted me 28 for 4 deck estimate time 2 to 3 weeks (not days weeks). k im done complaining time to move on and wait for the tendril and seasons deck.

Edit:Another explanation why they could be charging so much for shipping is. I think they hired a company to ship out the decks. Because i ask them a eta for shipping and they told me "We will notify everyone of target shipping date once stock is cleared with Cutting Edge warehouse"

no matter how you added it they are overpricing there shipping.

I agree with you too. When we started complaining my dear Skulkor brothers' shipping fees, they then said they asked their carrier to lower the price. So I agree with you that most card companies including D&D might hire such carriers to deal with the shipping work. Another example is the Clot and Zenneth's B&W New Fan Back, they are both in Hong Kong, the former charged high shipping fee while the latter didn't. And I remember when people asked Zenneth why he could not check his delivery status on the website, Zenneth said he just went to the postal office and sent out the packages. I guess that's why the shipping fee of B&W New Fan Back was very acceptable to buyers -- he packaged the decks, brought them to the postal office, lined up and filled the dispatch notes by himself.

@xlacs, $28 is reasonable because in my chart it still takes $23.5 from Taiwan.
xlacs, if it takes 2-3 weeks, then I have to say it's unreasonable... :mindf-ck: :mindf-ck: :mindf-ck:

Well,i send them a reply on the shipping quote they have send me (73USD for a brick to germany via EMS)
I reduced my order to 6 decks and asked for a new quote for that.
If this gonna be so overpriced again...then i will wait for resellers.
Sorry but this is nuts paying soo much for shipping and in worst case scenarios additional taxes/customs.

Dear Valued Customer,
While we understand your concerns about the shipping cost, it is unfortunate that we cannot do anything about these rates as they are given to us by the local post office here in the Philippines.

However, having said that, we are more than happy to direct you to a US dealer (the1eyedjack.com) who has just ordered from us through this pre-order sale. This could very well save you on a lot of shipping costs. And while your current purchase is secured here, we give you the option to either continue your purchase with us or wait until the US dealer receives their stock of the Mana deck at a later date. The choice is yours.

Either way, we are happy that you have confirmed with us, but understand if you wish to cancel your order with us and wait for the1eyedjack.com to receive their stock.

Thank you very much for your support!
Best regards,
Erik Mana

I honestly don't think the savings will be that much. Here's some math

from Mana's site: 8 decks plus shipping to U.S.

(8)8.95 + 44 = $115.60

from 1EJ assuming eh sells them at MSRP: 8 decks plus shipping to the U.S.

8(10.95) + 15 = $102.60

Those are just some numbers. They are not 100% accurate. I don't know what the price 1EJ will set them at and what the shipping will be. You save a little if he sells them at MSRP with good shipping but if it's more than that then it won't really matter.

Also I would expect there to be a mad rush at 1EJ anyways. What do you all think?

Sounds like 1eyejack is anticipating about $20 (Just got an reply from him). For me it seems much better to buy direct.

1eyedjack
3 decks at $20 + $5 Shipping = $65

direct from mana
4 decks at 9.95 + $28 shipping = $68

I've done comparison shopping between him and BMPokerWorld.  It varies as to who has the better price from product to product.  Don't forget, both stores have 10% off coupon codes as well.  The bad part, though, is that he'll be selling a sold-out deck, so it's going to go for after-market prices, not the MSRP.

I ordered four decks which, as others have stated, cost me around $65. Kind of ridiculous but then again I have spent that much on one deck of cards  :(  so I guess, all things considered, it is not that bad. After a years hype on the deck I was sucked in anyway. Just another curse for the collector. I spent more than that in two minutes when I collected drugs years ago so with this addiction, I am actually saving money. How is that for rationalization?

??? Well it's good to have a new hobby I guess haha  ;)

I ended ordering a couple since I realized it would be much cheaper to just order from them directly. The shipping sucked but it is what it is and even with that large number it's still smarter to order now than from a reseller.

I've just payed for mine, I ordered two decks but I also won two decks from various contests on Facebook so in total it cost me about £30.50/$47.90 for 4 decks shipped but 2 were free so I'm pretty pleased, I couldn't miss on getting these though as I've been looking forward to them since they were revealed plus I'm in the UK so high shipping rates is nothing new, I reguarly pay $17 for 2 decks.

I thought they would sell out but not as fast as they did so congrats to Erik for producing such a wonderful deck.

Consider the alternative: one after-market retailer who'll be carrying the deck thinks he might be charging as much as $20 when he starts selling them, and that's with no shipping.

It's just a heads up and I will put the topic up in the Sales/Trades/ISO board in agreement with the rules and regulations when I have the decks in my possession. I won't officially post about it in the boards until I actually have the decks though. Cheers!

If you can undersell the1eyedjack.com, who is considering pricing them at $20 a pack, you'll do well.  For many here, $15 would be a bargain they'd jump for.

I'm just about to place my order. In total it will be $170 for 13 decks. I wad originally only gonna get 7, but due to shipping, it isn't that much more expensive with discounts and shipping so I decided to get 13, which totals to about $13 a deck, which really isn't bad if you think about it.

Plus I am getting three signed decks, and I got inspiration from (I believe it was Digipunk, but for the life of me, I can't find where it was said, so correct me if I'm wrong), and I asked him to get one of the decks and sign the box, date the bottom, sign the jokers, the AOS, the ad cards, and the gaff cards. Now I usually wouldn't ask for this much, but when I'm paying this much for shipping, I believe this would make it more worth my while in my opinion.

Dang! That's pretty sweet. Are you planning on selling/trading any of them? I know that I might trade a few of the decks I got. I didn't even think about getting anything signed haha. I've never had that done.

@MA - He probably was paying the invoice or they saved his order. They offered to do that for me.
I'm sure if you contact them now since I don't believe they have shipped orders yet, I'm betting you could get them to sign a deck.

Also, I plan on selling and trading in the future, but the main reason I buy so many is because if I end up loving the deck, I will have a lot, so if I destroy them in use I will have extras, but if I were to say buy only one (not to mention that it would be a $40 deck), and if I destroyed it I'd be outta luck, and be forced to buy the reseller price of $25+ a deck.

How are you buying them now if they are sold out?

Precisely what Mr. Baggs said. I have been constantly emailing them do they know I'm still interested, and they are still holding the decks for me.

I'm just about to place my order. In total it will be $170 for 13 decks. I wad originally only gonna get 7, but due to shipping, it isn't that much more expensive with discounts and shipping so I decided to get 13, which totals to about $13 a deck, which really isn't bad if you think about it.

That's a brilliant idea!! I'll definitely do that! Thanks for the advise. I completely understand what you mean. When I really like a deck I'll usually buy 13 of them. 1 to open and a brick to have as back up (or 7, 1 to open and half a brick as back up). I've only done that with a select few decks though. haha

Just confirmed my purchase 8)

I asked for one of the decks to have the jokers, ad card, gaff cards AOS, King of Spades, and Nine of Diamonds signed! I know that is a ton of signatures for one deck, but I'm planning on getting a custom frame, and matting the cards together in a nice display! I think it will look pretty cool, and I told that to Erik so he didn't think I was insane asking for SO many signatures.

Has he replied to you about your request?

I have sent him an email which is the same as the above but I have not received a response. Its been many days already and still no reply from him.

I know he is busy but there is just no excuse on not having a prompt communication with his customers! grrrrr

I am already aware of these facebook updates but thanks anyway.

My only gripe is that he has not replied to my emails even just to confirm that he received my request. Compared to kickstarter deck creators they respond to you within 1-3 days which I find great!  Having a business should also come with good customer service skills.

I doubt he would answer you, he never did answer me cause i send a request through the sales department when the pre-order first started. The guys over at the mana playing cards sales department said they will forward the request to Erik mana.

I think I mentioned this in another topic, but I received an email from Mana a few days ago via PayPal - I was issued a partial refund on the shipping costs.  I guess they found a better way to ship.  I hadn't even asked for a break, so I'm assuming this is for all customers and not just the ones who spoke up.

Yeah they readjusted my first invoice and reduced the shipping down. Still seems pricey compared to want it costs to send a couple decks from the US but since one of my decks was a contest win it came out very reasonably.

Maybe this applies only for the US orders?

No partial refunds for me, yet! My decks are shipping to the UK.

I should clarify that they sent a first invoice but had it wrong (charged me for 2 decks instead of 1), so i told them that and then they fixed it and reduced shipping slightly.

It's looking like they found cheaper shipping to the US - or they're still working their way through invoices and will discount the others in time.  Perhaps you should ask?

It doesn't surprise me at all, unfortunately for you guys.  A gross of playing cards sounds like a lot, until you get twelve people wanting a brick each...  I've seen bigger quantities of rare items go bye-bye just as fast - Anyone remember the David Blaine Variety Box?

I know exacally what you mean about not owning every new deck. I am only buying new releases that are 100% custom or are something I find particularily cool. I had been buying every new deck, but it was just cutting into my money too much. It feels very nice to have some extra money to spend on decks I acctually like.

Mana Playing Cards has sent out the EMS and Airmail parcels.
Only EMS orders (5 or more decks) will get a tracking number.
I recieved my tracking number 6hrs ago via email.
You can't use it to track online,PH is somehow a poor country and this service is not offered anyways you can get the parcel tracked in your local carrier office like DHL etc.

With EMS the parcel will take 3-5 business days till it arrives.
Praying that the parcel will arrive next week on wednesday :-)

Can't wait to have them in my hands to perform with!
Now give us the Seasons Playing Cards please and i'm happy.

It doesn't surprise me that RunIt has them up for sale.  I'm thinking orders within the Philippines got filled the fastest since it was domestic mail delivery.  $30 for unsigned and $60 for signed seems steep, even for this deck - smart money will wait for wider distribution first, while the "gotta-have-it-now" crowd will jump at them, even at that price.

It's not too surprising to see them at that price. I figured that it would be pretty expensive to get them from resellers, so I bit the bullet and got them from the pre-sale. I can't wait to get them!!

Wanting until after they sell out to get them for resale isn't usually the best game plan.  The1eyedjack has them for far less, and you're best off waiting until more international orders are shipped and seeing how this affects the market price.  BG1E used to go for as much as $450 when it was REALLY new and rare, but these days, it ain't near that unless you buy off a reseller.  Same thing will probably happen here.

Supply, meet Demand.  Demand, this is Supply.  :))

He's a reseller and wants to get the best price he can without hurting his sales.  Right now, he feels that deck can still sell at the higher price without cutting into volume.  This is what happens to things that are limited in supply and high in demand.  If the decks languish on his shelves long enough, perhaps he'll mark them down - or not, since they'll probably sell out before that ever happens.

He, like many other retailers, still have the Big Gun decks at a premium price due to what he paid for it in the first place - cutting the price there means selling them at a loss, and a small retailer can't absorb a loss as well as a major company like USPC or Wingra can.  Even if he got the decks at pre-sale prices, he still had to pay those whacked-out shipping charges - and maybe more than we did, since he has them before I do and we would have ordered around the same time, meaning that he paid a premium for faster shipping.  I can't imagine that even if he wanted to, he couldn't cut the prices of his Mana decks too deeply.

Gotcha.  So, you were simply interested because you could sell the deck at a profit?  Like all those eBay people you're complaining about who are doing exactly the same thing right now?  And you missed your chance?  Right?

Well that's just my problem here, Ebay cock-blocked me on sales. They said i reached my selling limit and can only sell within the next 30 day period. Question here, is the 30 day period counted as a month(once reach limit in march, means can only sell again in april?) or is it after 30 day from the date of last sales?

So he's selling 1.5 times the price of mine? Hmmm.... why is he selling and I ain't? >:(
Probably because he is a reputable dealer and he is more well known throughout the community.

...and you aren't advertising them as well as they are.  Have you considered putting a post with your eBay link in the STISO forum?

Then you have a few alternatives:
a) post in the STISO board just as a "for sale" item, undercutting the other prices if possible
b) upgrade your eBay account to allow more sales
c) wait for the 30-day period to end - and ask eBay when it ends exactly.  I'd wager you have to wait for 30 days since the last sale, but that's strictly a guess.

If you opt for a), consider posting on other forums as well, like UC.

I did try upgrading my account but ebay would let me into the application page.

If anyone wants a Mana, I would be more than happy to trade one for a set of the new Tahoes from DealingDeuces. I'd buy them myself but I don't have Paypal anymore and $30 for shipping is outrageous!

Then make a post on the STISO board, not here!   ;D   I noticed DealingDeuces is actually a member here and posted about his cards - maybe you can cut a deal...

EDIT: he's offering a discount for Discourse members, and I just asked him to post all the details on STISO.

I'm just wondering, of those who ordered directly during the pre-sale, did anyone ordering from Asia get any partial refunds on the shipping? Or was it restricted to outside of Asia, or even the US?

Can't say for sure.  I only know that I was a contest winner and got to "pre-pre-order", I got a small amount refunded back, and I'm in New York.  Three decks paid, one deck won, about $6 and change back.

I'm in the UK and got my Mana decks today, I didn't get any money refunded from the shipping, I won 2 decks from the contests and bought 2 so 4 in total, I paid 28usd for shipping, about 20usd for the 2 decks so about 48usd in total, it works out to roughly 12usd per deck inc the 2 I won so im happy with that and shipping was quick, they estimated 2-4 weeks but they were sent on the 19th march and arrived today which is the 27th march, so a day over a week.

Erik autographed 1 deck and my first impressions of the tuck case are very good. I loved the artwork from the photos I'd seen and I look forward to breaking them open when I get a chance.

Alright i asked about the shipping and they said only two person got the refund.

Mana Playing Cards: Only two people got refunds. One was because it was the wrong shipping cost and the other was because we consilidated two orders into one shipping. Other than that there was no other refunds for shipping. As for your damaged deck, we made sure we packaged your order very carefully, we are not responsible for a damaged deck due to shipping. Sorry.

I got one slightly damaged deck but they were packaged very well so I'm sure it happened in transit, these things happen, plenty of videos online show the carelessness of delivery company employees so im not surprised. Theory 11 sent me a very badly damaged deckone v2 once, it was just loose in the box with a little brown paper over it so I wasn't surprised but they sent me a replacement v1 deckone that's been kept sealed ;)

I don't think that's entirely truthful, and I do think it's a bit rude.

It's looking like few people got any kind of refund, those mostly being in America.  I'm thinking he just found a slightly cheaper way to ship to America, or that my order's shipping option got downgraded and I was given the difference.  I placed my order during the pre-order period with the other contest winners and I checked my PO Box this evening - still no Mana decks.

I'm in the US and my cards arrived on Tuesday. Of course I wasn't here when they attempted to deliver them and they had to be signed for. So, I had to go to the Post Office on Wednesday and pick them up.

I'm always amazed that the packages from the Asia/Pacific region always have to be signed for. I wish I could ship things overseas with signature required for that low of a price. Why is it so inexpensive for them to send it here that way but very expensive for us to send it there? I always have to go to the Post Office the next day since I'm not home when they attempt to deliver them. It is annoying.

My decks were very well packed and in great shape.

Just out of curiousity, how many of you open autographed decks? I got four mana decks, one that's out of the cellophane and signed, I like decks to stay in the cellophane so as the signed one is out of it I was thinking I'd just break the seal on that one, do you guys do the same or do you like to keep signed decks sealed? It's also got a slightly damaged tuck case.

I generally try to keep signed decks sealed. If the deck doesn't have a seal, or they signed cards on the inside, I see so problem with taking the cards out of the box.

I recieved mine Monday but I paid for express shipping (I think it was only $15 more for my order) so it took about a week to recieve mine. In fact I probably would have gotten mine in less than a week but US customs held onto them for 2 days.  My decks were packaged fantastic and there was no damage. The only complaint I have would be the expensive shipping but I know it is expensive to ship express so its really not much of a complaint. They had top notch customer service in my book. The only advice I could give to them would be a cheaper standard shipping option....especially for only 1 or 2 decks.

It could have a lot to do with many countries having a less expensive average income.

Still haven't seen mine yet, and I requested faster shipping.  Not so fast after all.  Granted, I haven't checked my mail since Tuesday, so anything's possible.

...which is EXACTLY the same thing everyone in Asia says when any new release comes out in America.  Welcome to the club!  :))  Be lucky that the lion's share of new releases are domestic and stop complaining!  (I am assuming you're in the States right now, so, if I'm wrong, sorry.)

When I came home on Fri I had a slip stating a registered parcel had attempted delivery. I have to assume it was the Mana deck. I am looking forward to picking them up today. I hope they have no issues (damage) as some people have complained of. If this does happen, you do have recourse through your credit card. If you payed for something that did not come in proper condition, the credits companies will help you deal with the issue up to and including refusing to pay the retailer. I have had similar issues and Mastercard was quick to take care of it.

Yes, sorry for the confusion, two deck one sheets. I will probably get around to framing one but I do have a minor art collection here at home so I do not know where I will put it. Getting back to the Mana deck I can not get over how nice they are. I ordered four of them and they were all delivered in perfect condition. My wife saw the shipping invoice on my Email and she became quite upset with the amount I payed for shipping. To placate her I told her I would sell three of them. I figure that would be the right thing to do seeing as how she is supportive of my OCD and magic collecting. Now that I have them I wish I had stuck to my guns. On top of that I am going to sell them at my cost. I get annoyed with card resellers who jack up the price to such a degree for those of us who collect. I refuse to do something that pisses me off, I would feel like a hypocrite. I can tell you, they were very easy to sell at cost. No one attempted to haggle with me. I am down to two of them which I would really like to keep but since I gave my word, I feel I must follow through. I think the Mana and the E LTD are two of the nicest decks I have yet to obtain.
