Browsing Pinterest recently, I came upon a striking deck, the queens of which
are the first four images on the following page:
http://mypetarts.blogspot.com.au/2009/10/playing-card-queens.html

The jacks and kings from the same deck are at the top of this page:
http://mypetarts.blogspot.com.au/search/label/playing%20cards

They're reminiscent of the Saks Fifth Avenue art deco decks from the 1930s,
but they're not that deck, and I've been unable to identify it.
Does anyone have any idea what deck it is?

  • Kickstarter:
I did some digging since it interested me and was hoping it was available as a reproduction, but doesn't look likely.  Here's what I found out though, hopefully gets you started on what you need.

Cards feature art by artist Johan Bull (1893-1945) and was printed by Emil Moestue (Norway 1930).  Like the Saks-Werbespiel deck, it may have also been done for Saks & Company in a similar style, possibly the same artist.

  • I love to collect vintage ephemera. New to cards!
Can you share what book you found the information in? I would love to learn more about this deck!

I am particularly interested in seeing what the joker looks like but can't seem to find any images of it online. The similar deck posted above has a cat as the joker, and I'm willing to bet the joker for this fabulous deck is also a beautiful black cat!

The post ecNate made had links to the web pages where he found info about the deck.  It does indeed have a joker with a black cat on it!

The post from ecNate was very helpful, but I'm specifically interested in the deck the original poster asked about -- not so much the similar Saks Werberspiel deck.

This is the joker from the Saks Werberspiel deck that makes me think the Johan Bull deck that the original post is about must have a similar, awesome-looking cat!
