A Cellar of Fine Vintages / Re: Ask the Experts at 52 Plus Joker

Hey,
I got this card from a friend. Of which deck is this card? He found the card on the road. I like the design.

This is a deck that came out this year - not vintage - and is currently only available at Walmart.  USPCC says that they should've been available on their website back around August (see comments on the bicycle cards website above), but it hasn't happened yet.

Positives
Love the artwork!  Other than the Narwhal (something about this one bugs me, but I can't put my finger on it), I think the animals look great.

Negatives
MPC - while some are fine with the quality of MPC, and I understand the desire to use them (cost/minimum #decks - especially for a 1st time project), I typically will not buy MPC produced decks.

Price point, especially with MPC.  @ around 12 pounds (approx. $18) for one deck, this is expensive.  Most decks are going in the $10-$15 range (8-10 pounds) and this is with USPCC, or Expert/Legends which are all better quality than MPC.

I wish you good luck, but at the current price/printer selection I'm out.

Based on comments and pictures, I would suspect it was this campaign:

any hint when this is coming out on KS?

It might not.  The Scarlett didn't.  He held a "crowdfunding/pre-sale" on his own site.

What?

I think you're thinking of the 1st Tally-Ho that Jackson did (Blue and Yellow)

I still say those Spades in the banners around the globes are upside-down compared to the Hearts and Clubs.  I don't know if it's by choice, but it bothers me either way.

This was a kickstarter that shipped out last year.  It shouldn't be in the 2015 releases as they were shipping by September of last year.

So back to the deck...

Here's E's latest on FB:

Yeah, better hurry, these are running out fast and the remaining few will only be available for promotions ???
I guess they're planning on a lot of promotions.  I just checked and as of the time of this post there were still over 3100 left in stock.  This deck is just not selling.

Wait, I'm confused here.  I thought this was Racer Back #2 -

and this was Tangent Back -
(images from jimknapp.com).

So doesn't that mean you do have a Racer Back in the correct box?

I'd wager this isn't a USPC release - rather, that it was produced by CPC for distribution in their shop.  They've done similar to a few other Bicycle back designs.

Normally I'd agree with this, but USPC had an Instagram post about these.  Notice how they even comment how they get them in their store quicker than other retailers.  Oops...not this time.

Read carefully - that's exactly what I said!  :))

Interesting...it can be read that way too.  OK Don, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt ;)

Wasn't trying to take anything away from Brendan, just noting that Jackson had 3 on the list as designer but had a fourth as producer through KWP, with Brendan as the artist.

I tip my hat to Randy Butterfield and Jackson Robinson.  Randy had two decks on the list, including #2, and Jackson had two of his own, one funded through Kings Wild AND the 52+J deck!

Technically, didn't Jackson have 4 on the list - 3 designed (Sherlock, Independence & 52+J) and one funded (Hive)?

My confirmation email has a time stamp of 4:01PM EST.  They were being sold before 4:15.  If you were looking at the "CARDS" tab at 4:01, the cards weren't there.  But the "metallic-red-gatorbacks" link was working right around 4:00pm.  You could get to that link from the banner on the 1st page of the store.  The banner didn't have the working link until around 4:00pm.

Just placed an order with LPCC.  Noticed that they had the Serpentine pair listed at $6.75 on the main Black Friday page, but the actual product page and cart listed them at $8.75.  Regardless, some really great prices on several decks I've been wanting to get.  Thanks EPCC & LPCC!

Question about the EPCC deal.  Was the bonus Red Zen Prototype deck for any of the 1st 144 orders, or only the 1st 144 orders of the Zen Brick Special?  It's not clear from the post.

Well I got my one of each in the mail today from MPC, and I'm less than impressed.  The cards feel cheap and handle horribly - fans suck.  Maybe they need some breaking in time.  Running my finger over the back of the card I can feel a "lip" around the edges.  The cards are thicker than USPCC (52 cards is the same thickness of 56 USPCC), but feel flimsier.  Maybe I didn't read the KS right, but I was getting the impression that they were working on improving their process to produce better quality cards than they used to.  If I did read it right, and this is supposed to be an improvement, I don't think I'd want to see what the previous versions were like.  The cards themselves look as advertised on the KS so it's not all bad.  I'll probably wind up trying to use these for some games and see how that goes.  So all-in-all not a total waste of money, but this sample will probably keep me from ever buying any decks from designers that go with MPC.  I can see using MPC for creating prototypes as they give a good representation of how the cards will look, but for a final product...easy pass.
