Thanks a lot.
So, the back of the deck is gold metalic ink, right?
I believe this looks better than the normal one.
Nice review.

Yikes. Those cards look hideous. I thought there would be more depth to the deck than that.

Excellent review as always, Robin.

To be honest these have grown on me and I like the tuck case very much. I'm glad they decided to change from gold to the white for the back, it definately helps the the back design stand out more. I was unimpressed when I first saw the pics of them but like I said they've grown on me. Some will like it and some not, there have been many decks recently that have been released or have been put up on kickstarter that I really don't like but there will be others that do like them so it's all down to personnel taste. Best decks for me so far on kickstarter have been the Vortex and Actuators and there the only two I've pledged for, the rest I've not been a fan of. As Alex said, Great review Robin.

I agree! They were saying how amazing these look, but as with some of their other decks.... the box looks nicer than the cards.

i was also VERY underwhelmed by the look of these cards. boring backs, and to everyone that says "they're elegant not boring!" i say elegant is classic tally ho circle backs; even those have more going on then the monarchs. As someone else said these cards are more of a step back from the sentinels, cool box, boring backs and nothing custom about the faces of the cards.

have they changed the 909 finish to make these handle better than they sentinels?
have you heard the word???

I think the reason the sentinels were so bad, is because they're plastic coated

Wow, the cards themselves don't look nearly as good as the Tuck box. That was very unexpected, though this is Theory11 where talking about right.

Not sure if it's just me but does anyone else have any problems with the sentinels decks, mine dont fan very well at all, anyone else found the same thing? I have only ever opened one deck so it could be just an issue with a small batch, I was hoping that the monarchs wouldn't be the same.

Evan so it's a well known issue? Do you think the monarchs will be different then?

Definitely. Monarchs aren't plastic coated

I am also pretty disappointed with this deck. The box looks great but the backs of the cards aren't as awesome. It might be due to the white border and the contrast it has with the rest of the back (unlike the box). Also the court cards could have turned out better with the right colors. I'll pass on picking any of these up

I think the back design is okay, but color need to be changed.
It would be nice if it used the same color as the box.

Mine tend to curl up pretty fast.  Try some fanning powder and a card press (or improvise with some talc and a few heavy books).

They do at that.  I happen to like the design.  Granted, I wish the faces were a little more original, but aside from Sentinels I don't think any T11 decks were anything but standard faces with some tweaks to the colors.  I heard that the issue with the gold on the Gold Monarchs was that having gold on the backs and fronts of some cards caused ink saturation issues.  Yes, we all know black decks are inked everywhere, but metallic inks on playing cards are still a relatively new concept, and the stock in question may have been a little more absorbent and prone to such saturation.

There's actually a helluva lot of science that goes into making playing cards these days...
