Playing Card Plethora / Penguin Magic Card Club?
« on: May 21, 2015, 01:56:27 PM »
http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/5628

Looks interesting. About $6/deck shipped (US $29.95 for 5 decks a month). Although I can probably answer my own question, I wonder what kind of decks, especially the "Limited" ones, will be included? This probably shouldn't pique my interest, but it is, most likely because I like Penguin and have ordered often from them for many years so the trust factor is already there.

I'm sure that Don knows Kevin Reylek and will have some valuable input regarding this.

Playing Card Plethora / Rarity and Speculation - What Is Rare?
« on: June 16, 2014, 02:59:31 PM »
With 15,000 decks printed, it's in no way a limited edition!

ADMIN NOTE: this topic evolved out of a discussion in the topic for Zach Mueller's Blue Fontaine deck, which Zach declared was made in a print run of 15,000 decks.  -Don Boyer

Playing Card Plethora / Is the D&D Ultimate Deck still available?
« on: November 14, 2013, 02:38:27 PM »
I noticed that the Stranger Ultimate deck is showing as out of stock on the D&D site. Did it's "Available for a limited time only" period finally run out, or is it just simply out of stock at the moment? Just curious.

Sorry, I have to gripe/rant here because I believe that things are getting out of hand.

I received the backer e-mail for White Allure yesterday and decided to go out and review my pledge. There are FORTY-SEVEN (if I counted correctly...it was hard because they all started to blend together), FORTY-SEVEN different pledge levels. I initially pledged for two different levels, but my monetary amount now only shows one level. The levels were numbered decks (I pledge early in an attempt to get low numbers), but it's pointless now. Federal 52 was the same way. PLEDGE LEVEL OVERLOAD!! Doing multiple levels is a pain in the $#@ at best, and impossible at worst. I would love to see KS have some sort of multiple-level type "Shopping cart" system. I don't know whether to be frustrated at KS for not having it, or at creators for going frickin' nuts adding levels. Another deck yesterday added levels to lower prices. Great, but now there are twice as many listed. Is it a KS issue for not allowing levels to be removed once they're live, or creators for not planning ahead? There are many campaigns that I would pledge more on, I just get tired of trying to figure all of the levels and pre and post-end add-ons and all of the other clutter figured out. I've bought several KS decks on eBay because I knew that it would be easier to buy there than to pledge more to the creator. It's driving me crazy (which is a short drive anyway!), and I'm getting tired of dealing with campaigns because of this factor. Arrrrgggghhhhh!

Is this just me, or are others tired of it as well?
Rant done, thank you for your time.

Playing Card Plethora / Monarchs question
« on: March 08, 2013, 05:48:11 PM »
As always, I did a search before contemplating this topic post, but came up empty.

I have some standard black box Monarchs, two groups purchased a long time apart. The group that is old has no seal under the cello. The recent batch has red seals on the tuck under the cello. Is there a significance for either the exclusion, or inclusion, of the seal, or is it a fluke?

Thanks in advance!

Introduce Yourself / Hello all!
« on: February 12, 2013, 12:16:27 PM »
I just wanted to stop in and say hello! Some of you may remember me from the UC forum, although I hadn't been a memeber there for long before it went down. I have lurked on both of these forums for quite a few months. I joined US because I ran across it first, adn didn't want to be on two forums posting the same things twice to many of the same members, so I just opted to stay on there and keep lurking here.

I am a pure card collector. I love to watch flourishing, but seriously doubt that I would even be able to perform the simplest tasks. I love magic, and buy many tricks from E, T11, and Penguin, just to play around with them. I never attempt to perform them for anyone, they are just for my own amusement but even so, I always honor the magician's code and never reveal what I know to anyone. I LOVE knowing how the tricks work, adn enjoy being fooled! I can watch most tricks now and figure out how they are done, but I truly appreciate the skill and imaginitive thinking that goes into creating these tricks and I buy the ones that I especially like to support the artists and companies. I first got into collecting on a serious scale through these magic companies.

Being a pure collector, I never open the decks that I buy (yes, sad, I ageree) unless I ahve a lot of them and they aren't super rare. I but them as art pieces, with no intent on every selling any of them (much to my wife's dismay!). There really aren't a lot of decks that I won't buy at least a couple of.

From the time that I was very young, I remember being fascinated by that weighty card box in my hand. The size, the slight rattle of cards inside, the feeling opening a new deck and fanning through the cards, Just something about it speaks to me. I don't know how, adn I don't know why, but I'm sure that some of you know those feelings. I still go through my collection weekly, scrutinizing each and every deck, wondering about the artwork inside. Maybe it's nostalgia, but something about having the decks just does something for me psychologically. It's so cliche, but it is a magical experience. Yeah, weird...I know. :-)

I look forward to being able to give back to the board and the members as they have given me tips and information over the months.

Have a great day!
