Hey, just realized my laser printer has a scanner built in. The Brother website says it's capable of up to "19200 x 19200 dpi (interpolated) resolution". I'm no scanner pro, but that sounds like good quality marketing hype to me! I'll have to test it out when the decks come in.

edit: Just researched what interpolated means and found out that the optical scan resolution matters much more. The optical scan resolution is only 600 x 2400 dpi, so not that great. Perfectly fine for documents, but not enough for really high quality color photo scans. Oh well. I'll scan my 2015 KEM's and see how they look.

edit2: Scans added. Quality on the computer at full resolution is pretty bad. All the dots and edges of everything are really fuzzy. I guess I'll have to look into a quality scanner down the road.

Thanks!

I have two double deck sets of USPCC KEM's that I bought from PlayingCards.net, so once I found out a little about KEM's history I was naturally interested in buying pre-USPCC KEM's. I didn't plan on buying so many right at once, but we all know how that goes. Maybe eBay should add a pop-up message after you click "buy it now" that says "Are you sure? You have bills to pay." Lol

I actually learned a lot from a 2013/2014 post on here talking about why the AoS always says ©1935, the reorder card always says ©1947, and how to actually read the production date code on the AoS. They also pointed out the difference between actual Bakelite cases and the ones that came after that. It really helped out a lot with deciding which auctions to buy as (like they said) a lot of sellers advertise their decks as "1935" or "1947" decks, when they are obviously not if you have a little knowledge on the subject.

I don't have a digital scanner, but I do have a pretty nice camera (Sony a5100). I only have the kit lenses though, so I'm sure a digital scanner would do the cards much more justice. I'll have to look into that. Any pointers on what I should look for when shopping around for one?

Well I ventured out into the world and found some vintage decks I was interested in enough to buy. I'm sure this is only the beginning. They are all KEM decks of varying production years from 1947 - 1965. Some are even sealed with their tax stamps! How cool is that? ;D

Edit: All the photos are from the sellers, so sorry about the bad quality on some of them. I'll be able to take better shots once I receive them all.

I built an excel spreadsheet that I use for now. I joined Portfolio52, but I find it too basic for any productive use. Yeah, you can see what you have an how many at a glance, but it doesn't specify open vs sealed, cost, value, date acquired, etc. Too many things it doesn't have to list. I think it's a cool idea and I hope it continues to succeed, but I want more out my collection database/inventory. I want to be able to produce reports based on defined entries as I see fit. That being said, I'm now in the process of learning Access, so I can have a database that satisfies my need for lots of information.

As far as photos go, I don't bother taking my own photos. I download the KS photos or whatever each company provides online and have them all backed up and categorized in Google Drive. I considered taking my own photos, but there are decks that I'm not willing to open, so there would always be some missing.

Introduce Yourself / Re: And a good day to you, Sir!

Thanks Eddie & Kruser! I'm glad to hear your positive comments on the yearly convention. I am definitely trying to plan ahead and be there in KY. Not only to meet other members and learn about some of their interesting, rare, and vintage decks, but also to tour USPCC. I doubt another opportunity like this will come along again for me for many years if ever. And who better to tour their facility with? I imagine we'll be like kids in a candy store! Have they thought about ordering some Walmart kid leashes to keep us in line? Haha

Hello everyone! I'm both a new card collector and a new member of the 52 Plus Joker club. I started collecting cards randomly in July 2016. I was looking for a deck of cards for general use, but I wondered if there was anything different than the typical Bicycle deck I grew up with. So to Amazon I went. I ended up finding the Bicycle Series 1800 cards by Ellusionist and thought they looked pretty awesome so I ordered two decks (one red, one blue). A few days after that (and before the Series 1800 decks had arrived), I was back on Amazon (because reasons) and stumbled onto the Bicycle 130th Anniversary decks. Needless to say, I placed an order for a set of those as well. It's only got worse (better?) from there. I now have ~250 decks and a depleted checking account, but no regrets. I'm happy to be a part of the playing card collector community and hope to learn a lot from all you seasoned collectors as time goes on.
