Design & Development / Quick question - design copy?
« on: May 21, 2017, 06:03:16 PM »
Hi Everyone,

Quick question - I was discussing a design concept I have been working on with another artist, showed him my progress, etc. He had an idea on the design so made an edit of my first draft below. I keep thinking it looks like the same design from another deck though - am I just imagining things or has he just copied a design? Something about the hat rings bells.

Thanks

Playing Card Plethora / Pipmen: World - a real World First!
« on: December 31, 2016, 07:41:48 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I have waited to make this post for almost 3 years. This project is the culmination of literally everything that EPC has made so far - everything we have done has been an experiment towards or a tangent of this...

It is with great excitement that I present to you: Pipmen World!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/585926215/pipmen-world-playing-cards

Now, you are probably thinking: "Another Pipmen deck, you made one of them already (3, actually), what makes this so special? Why is this a world first?"

Well, this deck is not an ordinary deck. It has a secret, something that no other deck in the world has. It is this secret that makes Pipmen World incredible, and I can't wait to share it with you! Rouselle and ecNate guessed it first - Pipmen World is made up of awesome self-contained scenes which join together to form a giant scene - a picture of the Pipmen's World!

As we go continually spoil this deck, the uncut sheet below will be updated. I have made the card borders transparent so you can see all the detail that goes into these cards (including hidden detail in the card borders). Make sure to click the picture for a larger res version!

The campaign preview page is now up (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/585926215/1617830239?token=e2c93a92), so make sure to check it out for every little detail, including the following:

Pipmen world will be launching on Kickstarter on February 14th! Check out the preview page for all the details: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/585926215/1617830239?token=e2c93a92

EARLYBIRD PRICING will be available for the first 18 hours! This covers the most popular 3 rewards: 1 Pipmen world deck, 1 world and 1 collectors deck and 1 world, 1 collectors and 1 uncut sheet. Make sure to get in on the first day for the best deal. The 2 decks + 1 uncut is only $53 including shipping - that is SUPER CHEAP of decks + an uncut! Don't miss out :)

Pipmen world goes live February 14th, 4pm UTC, 8am PST, 11am EST. Make sure to get in on the first day for the best Earlybird deals!

Design & Development / Advice wanted on launching new projects
« on: August 20, 2016, 06:24:41 PM »
Hi everyone,

I would appreciate a quick word of advice regarding launching new projects.

Normally I would wait until a project is 100% produced and shipped out to backers before launching a new one. That means aprox 3 months between campaigns. I've made and shipped 3 projects so far (prism night, pipmen red & black and pipmen shadow), and I am currently running the Medieval campaign for Egor. I was hoping to launch Prism day and Dusk in early October to finish the series before the years end (I have really exciting things planned for 2017), but this would require me to launch prism before medieval had completed shipping.

Do you think that is acceptable, or should I wait until new years to do a new project? Is October even a good time to launch projects? What are your thoughts? The Prism project is all ready to go, just waiting...

Playing Card Plethora / Prism: Day and Dusk
« on: April 29, 2016, 11:51:08 PM »

Hi Everyone,

I would like to let you know that in a little under 2 weeks we will be launching Prism: Day and Dusk - the final decks in the incredible Prism series!

This has been a project in the works for over a year now so it is really exciting to see it finally come to this point. If you have already picked up a deck of the original Prism: Night cards, you will know how awesome they turned out, and I am confident that these next 2 decks will be even better! There are a few bells and whistles which the first deck didn't have and I know they are going to make an amazing trilogy!

Stay tuned for more spoilers and updates, and mark your calendars: May 17th!

Design & Development / Binary/Circuit deck - In development
« on: April 07, 2016, 03:01:51 AM »
Hi guys,

While I wait for Pipmen production to finish, and Prism Day/Dusk prototypes to arrive, I have started designing another set of decks which I am calling 'binary' and 'circuit' (for obvious reasons). At the moment they are intended to be a 2-deck set with similar styles, though one will be a binary theme and the other circuit. I have mocked up a few designs, including a back, and would like your suggestions. I think it has a way to go to get the detail to pop, but would like to see if you think I am on the right track...

The obvious market for these would be computer enthusiasts and the like, but I am hoping the simple, clear artwork will also be interesting enough for the playing card community at large. I am not in a rush with this as I am looking to get it right the first time. Any suggestions would be great :)

Playing Card Plethora / Pipmen Playing Cards - SHADOW Edition
« on: March 16, 2016, 04:23:34 PM »
Hi Guys,

There is less than 24 hours until the launch of Pipmen SHADOW – the 3rd deck of Pipmen Cards.

While the first 2 decks were funded successfully, due to popular demand I am running a short campaign to try and fund the Shadow Edition as well. I have reduced the price on them so that if you backed the first campaign if will cost you the same to pick up another deck of SHADOW as it would have the first time, including shipping! The full details of this can be found here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/585926215/pipmen-playing-cards-relaunch/posts/1519294

These are an awesome deck, featuring UV gloss to the tuckbox, unique cards, a 7th Joker (!) and a secret stretch goal! Every reward tier is limited as there are only 1000 decks made, so pick one up tomorrow!

I hope to see you there :)

Howdy all,

For those of you who have been following the development thread of this deck over at http://www.playingcardforum.com/index.php?topic=8163.0, the time has finally come to countdown to the launch (just 1 month to go)! These are semi-transformational cards unlike anything you've seen before - really cool. While many faces have been spoiled already, there are some good ones I've been holding back, and will start proper spoilers around Christmas building up the launch on January 12th! Mark your calendars - this is a great project :)

Cheers :D

Playing Card Plethora / Introducing: EPC Lucite Deck Display Cases!
« on: September 08, 2015, 05:48:35 PM »
Hi Everyone!

I would like to introduce the newest part of Elephant Playing Card range: EPC Display Cases!

These custom made Lucite display cases are made from the absolute highest quality materials to exact specifications all so you can showcase your prized decks with unparalleled beauty and safety. These cases feature:

- 100% virgin Lucite; crystal clear, museum quality and scratch resistant.
- Custom made and hand-polished chrome plated full metal screw caps.
- Full depth plates for complete protection and 360 degree visibility.
- Freestanding unit (no need for additional stands).
- Beveled edges for optimal aesthetics and light dispersal.
- Minimum-radius cutouts for maximum protection and snug fit.
- Very affordable price tag.

These cases are part of the EPC display Case Range which features both playing card deck displays and collectible card displays (such as for sporting cards, MtG, Pokemon or similar). The Playing Card deck displays are available in 1, 3 and 5-deck displays, each with the custom fixing hardware and beautiful presentation. Please make sure to check out our other products in this range at our website (http://www.elephantplayingcards.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

Each unit will be wrapped securely with scratch protection and several layers of bubble wrap. If you would like more than 3 units, please contact us for a custom quote.

Note that these display cases will not fit a Prism: Night deck, as the gloss layer increases the deck thickness. We are currently working on a unique display case for the Prism range which will be available soon.

Currently these units are in production, and are offered now for pre-sale. We expect to receive and ship all units before November, however would like to be upfront and clear that delays may occur during the production period. We have limited stock of this first production run; some have already sold, and if we sell out, please contact us to reserve your spot in the second production run. The picture shown is of the 3-deck unit; the 1 and 5 deck units will be very similar; both in appearance and in low price :)

Design & Development / ACTIVE playing cards
« on: May 02, 2015, 09:24:28 PM »
Hi Guys,

While I wait for the Prism cards prototype to arrive (which will launch shortly after), I have started work on my next idea. These are 'ACTIVE' playing cards; my first transformation deck. I have a plan for 90% of the faces, including courts, but would like some comments before I go ahead with creating them all.

The card back design concept is done, I am just fiddling around with making it look good. Ideally I am wanting the colour scheme of the deck to be black and white, with splashes of red (and 1 or 2 multicolours).

Please have a look and let me know if this has potential :) (I'm not a great fan of the Ace of Diamonds - I have to rework the balance of the image)

Thanks,
Fud.

Design & Development / The 'Prism' deck (previously 'highlights')
« on: March 04, 2015, 03:42:22 PM »
Hi All,

I have been roaming around on these forums for a while without posting, and have been developing some decks recently which I would like to put forward for comment to see if they are worth pursuing. One in particular I want to get going is one I call the 'highlights deck'. (*I don't really like that name, and am very open to any suggestions for another one*).

This deck got its start when I was doing some design for a combined card game (non playing card) project with some friends, and while messing around with some effects stumbled upon a combination of light and colour which I thought was pretty cool. After developing it for a while, I am pleased with the final effect. I'm a big fan of colour contrast with subtle touches, which I think comes through in these designs.

There are 2 facets to the cards. First, the bold coloured faces, the second is a subtle radial fan. To do this I am planning on utilising MPC's 'high gloss' finish for the cards, which essentially creates a clear, glossy and slightly raised effect on the card where it is applied to. My aim is to have all the colour detail in this high gloss for futher contrast, but to also continue the radial lines to a gloss border. In the images attached, imagine that the light grey area is fully black, gloss (not matt) and slightly raised for texture.

The finished card will be a mixture of bold colour and subtle texture.

I would love to hear some of your thoughts as to if this idea has merit, and how I could improve it. Also if someone has a better name than 'highlights', I'm all ears! Currently 'Laser' is forerunner.

Thanks,
Fud
