Playing Card Plethora / Wild West Playing Card Project
« on: May 20, 2017, 02:24:37 AM »
Hey Everyone,

Hope all is well.  I had some delays but I am happy to announce that my Wild West Playing Card Project is finally ready to launch in June!  We have completed the art work on the cards.  Each deck will have all custom faces and backs.  The Lawmen deck will depict Historical Wild West law legends and the Outlaw deck will depict Historical Wild West outlaw legends.  Here are a few pics of the face cards and tuck boxes.  Let me know what you think.

I wanted the images of the cards depict the real historical figures but I wanted to still have the "playing card" feel to the portraits.

Little Background on some of the Legends in the deck:

King of Clubs - James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickok of the Lawmen Deck of the Wild West Playing Card Project.

"Wild Bill of the American Old West is known for his skills as a scout, lawman, gunfighter and gambler. He was a professional gambler who was involved in several notable shootouts. In 1876, Hickok was shot from behind and killed while playing poker in a saloon. The poker hand he supposedly held at his death has become known as the dead man's hand. There are a few hands that were suspected of being the Dead Man's hand but the most widely accepted was black aces and black eights." per Wikipedia

Outlaw Deck's King of Spades: Jesse James.
Jesse James was an American outlaw, bank and train robber, gang leader and was the most famous member of the James-Younger Gang. The James brothers were most active as members of their own gang from around 1866 until 1876.

« on: January 14, 2015, 10:33:13 AM »
Hey Everyone,

I wanted to give everyone a sneak peek into the next project Gonzo and I are working on.  The next project is inspired by the Wild West!
There is going to be 2 decks the Lawman Deck and the Outlaw Deck.  Each deck will have different court cards and different backs.  Lawman Deck will have famous lawman of the wild west and the outlaw deck will have famous outlaws.

Here is the card we are working on for the Lawman Deck, King of Spades - Wyatt Earp. This is the first version, card could be modified.  I just wanted to share with everyone what we are working on.  Gonzo is hand drawing the court cards now and then we will be working on the illustrations.

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / New to Vintage Decks
« on: January 27, 2014, 02:00:18 PM »
I am new to vintage decks and I am expanding my card collection to incorporate old decks.  The postings on the forum has gotten me interested in the older decks and the design.  I really like the cards I have seen on here, so thanks.  My wallet may not thank you.  Well I just purchased this deck I thought was pretty cool. Let me know if this was a good buy or not.  I have attached a pic and the card description from the auction.  Purchase price was $99.00 but I put in an offer of $30.00 and they excepted it with free shipping.  I thought it was a cool deck, in good condition and I liked the joker and the fact it had a tax stamp on it.

Thanks for your help!

The Card description from ebay : Here is an ultra rare find. Two packs of Brown & Bigelow playing cards. These have the tax stamp and redi-slip seal on them Still new in the original plastic. Comes in a nice velvet box. Yellow on the back of cards and front of box.

I sense that USPC is seeing a greater opportunity to create more unique decks than their standard decks.  Today I picked up these Bicycle decks at Wallgreens and Walmart.  Just a few years ago I remember that if I wanted to get a unique deck to add to my collection I would have to go to a game store in the mall or online.  I find it fascinating that now more unique decks are easier to find in the big box stores.

I sense that USPC is seeing the demand for custom decks and have gotten a lot more business due to Kickstarter.

Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Beginner flourishing
« on: October 30, 2013, 05:07:00 PM »
I just read a post that someone said they are spending 3 hours a day 5 days a week to master some flourishing tricks. That is impressive to me.  I was wondering what would be a good beginner flourishing trick for me to start off learning?

My name is Justin and I am creating a new deck of cards to put on Kickstarter. The deck will be original art. My Theme is Coat of Arms. Each card will be unique art. Each court card will have a different coat of arms. Kings and Queens will have crowns and the Jacks will have Knight helmets. The number cards will have a shield in the background and the suits will be laid out on the shield. The Joker has a jester hat in place of a crown.  I thought it would be cool to incorporate a little history into the deck. In the 18th century the Swiss and German culture used different images for the four suits that are common today. They used roses, bells, acorns and shields. So throughout the deck you will find the old images incorporated in with the new. You will find hearts with roses, Diamonds with bells, clubs with acorns and shields with spades. Here is what I have done so far.

Let me know what you think!
