The Wild Card Trick Kit (Magic Makers)

A classic and popular packet card trick

Overview

Among packet card tricks, one of the most popular ones is Wild Card, which uses just 9 cards.  First you reveal eight cards that are all nine of spades. Then you introduce an additional card, the queen of hearts, which is a "wild card", and with its help you magically transform each of the nine of spades into a queen of hearts. It's an amazing effect that needs to be seen to be believed. Arguably the greatest performance of this trick is by legendary Dutch magician Tommy Wonder, entitled "Tamed Cards", which you can see here.

Difficulty

The handling for Wild Card requires some sleight of hand, so this trick isn't suitable for a complete beginner. However most intermediate magicians with a knowledge of basic sleights should find it well within their ability. Once you've mastered the moves, which are fairly straight forward, it's all about the presentation, and it's worth putting time and effort to learn how to present this well. The product being sold by Magic Makers comes with an instructional DVD featuring Rob Stiff teaching Wild Card, and a number of variations and tips shown by magician Gerry Griffin.

This video features a performance from Rob Stiff, and will give you a good idea how perplexing this effect can be:

Recommendation

Wild Card is one of the all-time top packet tricks, and I highly recommend getting it along with an instructional video like this one.
