Playing Card Plethora / Playing card slider

Is taking one card off the deck really something that needs to be mechanized?

The Conversation Parlor / Playing card horror stories.

I left my Whispering Imps deck in my car after a game of poker with my friends. My brother spilled water on it when he was getting a phone charger out, and this is the result.  :(

What's the worst way you've had a deck ruined, and what's the best deck you've trashed?

Hello, everyone! Most of my cards are stored in empty brick boxes. I usually buy them off ebay, but I figured that some of the retailers/designers on this website might have some that they need to get rid of.

I'm just looking for the plain white boxes that the USPCC sends their bulk orders in. Preferably without any labels. You can set the pricing and quantity, but I'd prefer to not pay more than 50 cents a box, or buy more than 20. I'll pay for shipping.

My real name is Isaac Jedlicka, and my email is jedlickaisaac@gmail.com. Email me or PM me if you're interested.

Thanks!

Free PDFs all Summer!  :D

This is a great chance to grab some great material. They had some awesome books last Summer, including the Tarbell System.

https://shop.conjuringarts.org/store/pc/Free-Downloads-c149.htm

Right now you can get  "Outs: Precautions and Challenges for Ambitious Card Workers" for free. They switch out the downloads after a short period of time, so get it while you can!

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / Odd Bee deck: About 1966.
« on: June 19, 2014, 08:44:16 PM »
I hit a major score at a local thrift shop. A fairly old Bee deck.

It's weird, though. The box is red, but the cards that came inside are blue.  Here are some higher quality shots of the box.

The cards seem much older, though.

I looked up the code on the AoS. According to Don, the Consolidated Doughtery name was removed from the joker around 1962. So, going by this chart, that places the actual cards at 1946. (Seeing as the USPCC acquired C-D in 1930).

Not nearly as old as most of the decks here, but not bad for 75 cents!

(Sorry for the crazy number of pictures.  Just got a new camera.  :) )

I'm excited to announce my collaboration with The National Pastime Museum located in San Francisco, California. This series of three decks will focus on the players and stadiums of the historic Dead Ball Era of early American Baseball. The National Pastime project will launch on Kickstarter in early July so stay tuned. Keep checking the brand spankin' new Kings Wild Blog for more information about this and other upcoming projects.

This looks like it's going to be amazing! I'm not even a baseball fan, and I'm pumped!

Playing Card Plethora / New KS Deck: Bicycle Steel
« on: January 13, 2014, 06:42:45 PM »
New deck on Kickstarter. Same guy who did the Bicycle Dark Templar deck.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cardicians/bicycle-steel-playing-cards-deck?ref=live

In my opinion? Kind of mediocre. It almost looks like a deck Elite would make. At least the Dark Templar deck had completely original courts, but this just has standard ones with a border.

Playing Card Plethora / 2014 Playing Card Series (KS)

I don't...

I can't....

...What?

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/markallender/2013-playing-cards-series?ref=search

I've searched the boards for this deck like 10 times. It must've sailed right under our radar. Not hard to see why.
Could the themes of these 4 decks possibly be less related? And it looks like the Futura Black was once a Led Zepplin deck that got canned due to a licensing snafu.

Playing Card Plethora / Smoke and Mirrors orange?
« on: November 11, 2013, 08:03:17 PM »
This thing was hiding in plain daylight.
Then again, I guess no one was really interested in the Woody Clip.

I love it when companies make a big deal about ending one of their popular products, then just say "lol disregard that MOAR COLORS" a few months later.

But anyway, thoughts? Think this will be released with the purple deck? Is it just D&D joking around?

18
Hello. Just thought I should trade a few decks. Here are the decks I have up for trade.

Signed Core deck (Signature is on cellophane)
Bedecieved Confidence Deck
Theory 11 Rebel deck

I'm hoping to trade for the following decks.

Red NOC deck V2
D&D Ultimate deck
Uusi Red royal Optik
Bedecieved Mystery deck

I'm willing to trade multiple decks for single decks and visa verca. If you have other interesting decks, I'm also willing to consider trading those instead.

I'll pay to ship my decks and you pay to ship your decks.

Playing Card Plethora / New KS Deck: Mafia Wars

Hmm..... Now where have we seen this before?...

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1350770907/mafia-wars-playing-cards?ref=live

OH YEAH

http://aethercards.com/discourse/playing-card-plethora/new-ks-deck-new-york-lights/

So, essentially the new York Lights deck, except the creator didn't do a kilo of crank before he applied the Photoshop filters this time.

Playing Card Plethora / Dan and Dave Variety Box, fall 2013 (V7)
« on: August 31, 2013, 03:21:09 PM »
The latest variety box. Now with a new design!

http://shop.dananddave.com/variety-box.html

This one has

Vintage Plaid*
Fraggle Rock
Misc Goods*
Smoke & Mirrors: Carbon
Arrco® Tahoe*
Bicycle® Skull & Bone*
Clip Joint, Private Reserve Label
White Lions*
Artisan*
Fournier 605*
Legends*
Ultimate Deck

The * means that there's color variations.

What do you guys think? There's definitely some nice decks in there (I'm so happy Misc. goods is getting into the mainstream card websites!). But I REALLY love the box. Amazingly classy.

Oh, a little price calculation.

Vintage Plaid = $7
Fraggle Rock = $10
Misc Goods = $15
Smoke & Mirrors: Carbon = $25 (best offer on ebay)
Arrco Tahoe = $12
Bicycle Skull & Bone = $8
Clip Joint, Private Reserve Label = $30
White Lions = $8 (assuming it's series B. Lowest listing on ebay)
Artisan = $7
Fournier 605 = $11
Legends = $7.50
Ultimate Deck = $25

If you paid for all of them individually (not counting the king's ransom for shipping, or cheaper prices via resellers) you'd be shelling out $142.50. That's not counting the Clip Joint.

The box comes to $150, so I guess you'd be paying about &7.50 for the Private Reserve and the killer box. Plus consolidated shipping.

Not the best deal, but I guess it's alright.

Ok, total updated is $165. Now it's beginning to look pretty reasonable.

Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Card box openers
« on: August 31, 2013, 02:58:11 PM »
One thing I've always wanted to do is open a deck of cards in a really cool, flashy manner. Right now, before I perform magic/cardistry, I just spin it through the air, like Dan and Dave's Vertigo, but in the box.

Does anyone know of any really interesting ways to open a standard deck? (preferably free, but I could throw down a few bucks) The Virt's Rubix opener would be awesome, but it's not available.

Thanks!

Seems to be a sequel to the Babel deck. It definitely looks intriguing.

Playing Card Plethora / New KS Deck: Bicycle Minimal Deck
« on: July 28, 2013, 01:30:57 AM »
GENTLEMEN

I bring you:

THE EPITOME OF LAZY DECK DESIGN

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/avren/minimal-deck-new-bicycle-playing-cards

If  your deck needs a freakin' KEY to even be used normally, you know you've done something wrong.

24
From the people that brought you the LaBelle deck:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/labelle/bicycle-black-widow-art-playing-cards-deck?ref=live

I actually liked the previous deck from this guy, but this...

Well, for one, the ace of spades isn't even an ace.

The court cards are pretty standard, the curls on the face cards don't mesh with the design, and the back looks kind of lazy.
