Deck Reviews! / [VID] Magician Anonymous Playing Cards
« on: July 01, 2015, 09:58:11 PM »
So Murphy's sent me the new Magician Anonymous playing cards. Who is Magician Anonymous? Good question

FB profile: https://www.facebook.com/magiciananonymous

My review of the cards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h212N9DQ0bI

Add copy: Magician Anonymous Playing Cards were designed and developed as a tribute to the theatrical and mysterious side of magic.

Made by the U.S. Playing Card Company with a luxurious magic finish so they flow in your hands. The simplistic, yet iconic back design will resonate with everyday workers and card collectors. Includes a blank face, double back and custom jokers and Ace of Spades.

The only other product I know they have done is TREMBLE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUaE9HsVT8w

What do you think?

9 days left to go with only 94% funded - c'mon people no more siting on the fence - if each backer spent $6 more we'd be there

Title: Any Card to Any Spectator's Wallet
Creator: Jeff Kaylor and Michael Ammar
Publisher: Magic Estate
MSRP: $40
Skill Level: Intermediate
DVD Run time: 15:16

Type of effect: Card to wallet

Manufacturer's Write Up:

Any card is chosen, signed, & placed back into the deck. The spectator takes out his wallet. His signed card is found in his wallet!

How accurate is the ad copy?

Pretty close, to be clear - the spectator removes their wallet, but hands it to the Magician and the Magician produces it from the wallet

What's in the box? DVD and Utility (TKO)

Key points:

No Palming
Any Signed Card
Any Deck
No Stooges
No Palming
No Magnets
No Trick Cards
No Pulls
No Special Wallets

How are the production values: Shot in HD, well microphones, real live performances, multi-angle studio performances. Teaching is clear and inclusive.

Is it well made: It is very well made - high quality long lasting gimmick

Is it well taught: I had no idea what it was, but it should be pointed out that if you already have Jeff Kaylor's TKO effect, this is THAT same device.

My thoughts (what I personally liked/disliked): This is the way a card to wallet should be, no awkward folds, no weird palming

Storage? Does it "pack flat?" Wearing the gimmick is virtually undetectable, but you will need to be wearing a closed buttoned collard shirt. The device comes in Black, but if you are used to performing in white dress shirts, it is recommended you purchase the white gimmick.

 Does it "play big?"

I think anytime you involve the spectator in another way, it's a good thing. Seeing their chosen signed card coming out of their own wallet is mind-blowing.

How practical is this in the real world? (can it really be done?)

No reset, minimal setup, great for walk around in sunlight and indoors.

Overall score: 10/10 "perfect!"

I didn't back this but does anyone know how it's going? His last update is "hidden" but it's titled "CONTRACT SIGNED" and it's dated June 16 - the campaign ended 2 months ago..what took so long?

Magical Cardistry Bonanza / PRINT CARD BY MICKAEL CHATELAIN
« on: June 20, 2015, 09:59:34 AM »
My review:

PRINT CARD BY MICKAEL CHATELAIN

Title: Print Card
Creator: Mickael Chatelain
Publisher: Gimick Magic
MSRP: $ 35
Skill Level: intermediate
DVD Run time: 15 min

Manufacturer's Write Up:

A classic of magic within reach of all! Even if you're not a manipulator, this version will fool you as much by its effectiveness as by its simplicity!

The skill needed to present the classic Chameleon Cards is not easily acquired, so Mickael Chatelain put himself to the task of simplifying the method.

Well known for his simple and visual effects, today he offers you a new version manageable by anyone!

How accurate is the ad copy?

The write up is fair, the sleights needed to achieve this effect are minimal and known by most magicians.

What's in the box? Four cards (mine were blue backed Bicycle - 2 gaffs and a gimmick) plus the instructional DVD. You will need a standard deck of cards, including the force card with identical back design to do the trick.

Key points:

·  NO manipulation!

·  The cards really seem to be printed and erased in full view.

·  You use only the four cards that you receive, no others.

·  No glue or magnets.

·  The gimmick takes care of everything and the DVD will explain the workings of the routine in detail.

·  Instant reset.

·  A great classic doable by everyone.

How are the production values: French and English Dub options, all shot with one "behind-the-magician" point of view. All the magic is done by hands against a black card mat

Is it well made: The gaffs are familiar, but the 1 gimmick card is really well made and quite ingenious.

Is it well taught: It's a standard 4 card phase routine that uses a familiar "deal." Mickael goes over everything you need to know to do the trick well.

My thoughts (what I personally liked/disliked):

I really liked the ease of this, the routine is very simple

 Storage? Does it "pack flat?"

The four additional cards and a standard deck are all you need, I just remove 4 random cards from my deck and insert the extras and I am ready to go.

 Does it "play big?"

The Chameleon card routine is a wonderful classic of magic that is sure to stun audiences.

How practical is this in the real world? (can it really be done?)

I think due to the gimmick's design there could be some lighting and angle issues, practice with it and find what works best for you.

Overall score: 8/10

some people have pulled out, he's had a few days now where the campaign had negative dollar amounts, if anyone here has backed this, I'd run for the hills before it's too late - if this has been "padded" by over 8K I highly doubt  you'll see your cards.

1011
WOO HOO! Awesome design - backed!

1012
So far it seems nobody cares....

this deck is funded - so the backers will be charged - but the deck will not be printed - so 96 people will be out their money.

MPC will make "Realm of Cards" sign an agreement that says all the art is 100% his... and it isn't. All the symbols (wolf head, hydra etc) are all clipped and pasted and are the property of HBO

I asked the deck creator if he had permission from HBO to use their licensed images and do you know what he told me....?

...

Nothing.

Get ready for either a lawsuit if the deck is printed, or 100 angry bacers

1013
Creator: Daniel Chard
Publisher: RSVP Magic
MSRP: $ 30
Skill Level: intermediate - advanced
DVD Run time: 2 hours 9 mins

Type of effect: Card tricks

Manufacturer's Write Up:

Welcome to the brand new DVD 'Chardistry' from the brilliant Daniel Chard. His first release to the magic world was with rsvpmagic under the title 'Chardshark.' This new DVD features 10 stunning routines ranging from very, very easy right through to knuckle busting stuff! Either way, there's something for everyone on this DVD which features live performances and in-depth training that take the DVD to a running time of over 2 hours.

Here's what to expect:

Banter - A commercial comedy opener that can be used at tables, parlor or on stage.

Chard under box - After lots of requests Chard's 4 phase card under box routine fully explained, refined over hundreds of performances.

Homage To Pepe - A suit production with a kicker finish, the finish always generates an amazing response.

Blaze - You visually destroy the deck, all the cards are left in burnt pieces, aside from their selection. Almost self working.

Progressive Revelation - A visual collectors routine, combined with a fusion phase that happens in the spectators hand. Sequential Extension - Multiple selection meets a sandwich effect, a variation of 'Sequential Sandwich' from 'Chardshark'.

Prophecy Transpo - Two selections and the ace of spades. A few visual productions and a surprise finish.

Kickback collectors - Four aces trap three selections, then the three selections visually find the four aces.

Loc-ACE-tion - A visual one at a time ace production.

Dreamweaver - Make all the pips fall off the deck, except for the signed selection. Practically self working!

How accurate is the ad copy? The add copy says there are some "very very easy" tricks, but nothing is "self-working easy." Out of the 10 tricks included I would say that this DVD will be more targeted for someone who knows their way around a deck of cards pretty well.

What's in the box? DVD only

How are the production values: Shot in HG, well microphoned, clear locations, no annoying music in the background

Is it well taught: Daniel goes over everything you need; he spends over 2 hours on 10 tricks! That's about 12 minutes per effect! Daniel also credits previous teachers which is nice.

My thoughts (what I personally liked/disliked): Daniel has an interesting style, he's managed to combine flourishes into his routines which I think is a nice touch. His plots are very creative and I think would certainly entertain people.  The two "easy" effects, Dreamweaver and Blaze I felt had a more "magical/unexplained" plot while the rest of the effects were more "sleight of hand" based.

Overall score: 9/10

Creator: Cameron Francis
Publisher: Big Blind Media
MSRP: $ 30
Skill Level: all
DVD Run time:

Type of effect: DVD with 10 card tricks, all self-working

Manufacturer's Write Up:

Ten incredible full routines that require NO SLEIGHT OF HAND! Zero Sleights, 100% AWESOME!

Employing both ingenious construction and the cleverest of devious methods, the material in 'Out Of Sleight' requires no sleight of hand skills, yet is utterly fooling. Using just some playing cards, a pen and a few business cards these ten routines will arm you with miracles! And with no worries about complicated sleight of hand, you can just concentrate on presenting your magic like a rockstar.

Cameron Francis, your genial host, will not only train you up in the required handling for each routine, he will also unleash performance advice and show you how to improve your magic. So let's get OUT OF SLEIGHT!

Featuring:

Out Of This Packet
Either/Or
Coat
Sleightless Sightless
Creation
Find The Kings
Humming Words
Gemini Annihilator
Coupling
Date Fate

How accurate is the ad copy? Spot on accurate, these effects are not only easy to do, but they are also not "throw aways" - there is something on here for everyone.

What's in the box? DVD only, no gimmicks or gaffs

Key points:

10 great tricks
no filler
easy to learn
it's even fun to watch!

How are the production values: Shot in HD, well lit, well microphoned and the assistants who help Cameron on this are gorgeous! (so everything is enjoyable to look at)

Two studios, one for performances and a second "kitchen" area where Cameron and Liam Montier go over the effects

Is it well taught: Cameron really knows his audience and caters to it. No long drawn out explanations where he wastes your time, he gets right to the explanation and very quickly you are grasping the mechanics of each effect.

My thoughts (what I personally liked/disliked): I loved that this was a combination of both some classicly published effects (with a twist) some familiar "plots" and some brand new stuff I'd never seen.

Does it "play big?" I think a lot of the card jockey's run away from the words "self-working" as if a self-working effect couldn't produce a strong reaction. Sure, you probably could not fool a magician with some of these, but several on here could fry a lay person easily.

How practical is this in the real world? (can it really be done?) That's the best part of this DVD, so many of these are practical miracles for the times when someone throws a deck of cards at you and says, "do a card trick."

Overall score: 10/10

Creator: Mark Elsdon
Publisher: Alakazam
MSRP: $ 38
Skill Level: beginner / intermediate
DVD Run time: 28 min

Type of effect: stranger card routine

Manufacturer's Write Up:

Two decks of cards are introduced, both with different backs. One of the decks is removed from its box, shown to be 100% regular and shuffled. Your spectator now selects a card from the deck (sight unseen) and places it in his pocket.

You now state you are going to attempt to cut to the matching card but from the other deck.

Your spectators will be impressed by your skill when you accurately practice cut to both the jokers. What happens next is where the fun begins. You now start removing joker after joker from the deck. Your spectators will start to realize they've been had and it's a complete deck of jokers and just when the let their guard down you hit them. Yes every card in the pack is a joker...well almost every card. There is one card left face down on the table.

For the first time your spectator removes and shows his card. You could now cut the tension with a knife, have them reach over and take a look at the card on the table. It's a match!

Your spectators may have had a giggle throughout the routine but you certainly had the Last Laugh!

Last Laugh is easy to do and comes complete with a special deck and a registration code that gives you instant access to a full training video to get you started right away!

How accurate is the ad copy? this is exactly what happens

What's in the box? Deck of cards - download code

Key points: practically self working, reset is quick, routine contains both humor and wonder.

How are the production values: HD quality DVD, multiple angles and careful teaching, everything you would expect from Alakazam

Is it well made: Bicycle stock cards

Is it well taught: Peter Nardi covers all the bases, he takes almost 30 minutes to teach you this simple effect by offering you tips, advice and even shows you a few forces.

My thoughts (what I personally liked/disliked): I liked that this trick has an inherent patter and routine built into it's premise. This is a great effect for people who want to add a touch of laughter to their presentation.

Storage? Does it "pack flat?" All you need to do this trick is the special deck of cards.

Does it "play big?" The kicker ending of a stranger card is a classic in magic ala "Red Hot Mama" and Chicago Opener

How practical is this in the real world? (can it really be done?) Obviously if you do tricks with a normal deck, this deck has to be carried on your person as well (which works as you need a contrasting deck to do this trick anyway)

How original is this idea? Expert Card Technique (chapter 13) has a en entire chapter devoted to the 'stranger card' plot.

Overall score: 9/10

1025
Creator: Jordon Victoria
Publisher: PCTC Productions
MSRP: $ 35
Skill Level: beginner / intermediate
DVD Run time: 32 min

Type of effect: Card trick / card utility / card prop / sandwich effect / card vanish

Manufacturer's Write Up:

Unlink is not an effect... it's a TOOL for every magician! The Unlink gimmick is very versatile and it's different from what you can find in the market (Twizted by Eric Jones, Shin Lim vanishing card,...). Here you have (for example) a freely selected card that is signed and placed in between two other cards. The signature is VISIBLE until the vanish and then you can make it appear in your back pocket

How accurate is the ad copy?

Accurate, nothing shady here.

What's in the box? Gimmick, DVD and extra material to repair your gimmick

Key points:

- Endless possibilities
- Cards can be SIGNED and visible until the vanish
- Handmade gimmick
- DVD instruction with 7 angles to follow easily the explanations

How are the production values:

Not so good, especially in the age we live in now, where magic videos get better and better. Low lightning plus the camera angle is off and you can see a lot of "flashing" in the teaching.

Is it well taught:

On the DVD there is no live performance,  no vocal teaching, and it's all done with subtitles. Of course the magic doesn't suffer from this and you will still learn all that you need to know, just be aware.

Is it well made:

The gimmick is very well made, but it's a gimmick that undergoes a lot of stress, and so I am guessing it will need repair work over time.

Storage? Does it "pack flat?"

This is easily a packet trick and you would probably care it as such, or as the top card in your deck.

Does it "play big?"

If you've seen the performance, then you'd agree this looks like real magic and should get HUGE results.

How practical is this in the real world? (can it really be done?)

This takes some set up to get into, but there is some tips on getting into the effect "on the fly" but I think this will work best as a "first" or "last" effect and it does end a little dirty.

How original is this idea?

Jordon admitted he was borrowing an idea from Twizted by Eric Jones - which is a Mark Mason gimmick

Overall score: 8/10
