Packet Killer (Magic Makers)

Comes with the excellent Blue Gaff Deck and a great instructional video!

Overview

If you're looking for a deck that contains an assorted collection of various gaffed cards to perform a wide range of packet effects, this is it. Better yet, it even comes with a terrific instructional DVD video!

What's a packet trick? It's a magic effect that doesn't use an entire deck of cards, but only a selection of cards.  Packet Killer comes with both a deck of assorted gaffs, plus teaching videos.  Here's the official video trailer:

Contents

Packet Killer comes with:
1. a full deck of assorted gaffed cards for a variety of packet effects
2. an instructional DVD which teaches over 40 different effects

This is great collection of essential gaffed cards.   While some of the effects taught are just variations from each other, there's absolutely a ton of great material here.  Gaffs for many classic packet tricks are included, and the video teaches classics like Wild Card, Million Dollar Monte (i.e. Ultimate 3 Card Monte), MacDonald's Aces, Parade of the Kings (a predecessor of B'Wave), Princess Card Trick, a Twisted Sister variation (Simon's Transpo), Card to Wallet, and more.  Various routines are taught for double-backed cards and double-faced cards, and there's also some very unique gaffed cards.  Simon not only teaches the effects themselves, but also the necessary sleights to perform them, so there are sections dealing with teaching for card sleights like the Glide, Elmsley Count, and many others.

To get an idea of the killer material what's included, see Simon's performance of "Transpo Kings" in the video below, which is taken from the DVD:

The Very Good: The Deck

The deck that comes with this product is called The Blue Gaff Deck, and was first published by Magic Makers as a separate product without instructions, and was initially intended as a utility kit of gaffed cards for magicians. It features a pretty good mix of gimmicked cards, with all the DBs, DFs, and false indices needed to perform a wide range of the most popular packet effects like Wild Card, MacDonald's Aces, Twisted Sisters, Ultimate 3 Card Monte, Princess Card Trick, and more. There's also some miscellaneous gaffs (e.g. partial red back on blue back, multiple cards printed on a single card, half 7 clubs & five hearts on face) which you can use to do some fun routines.

The Excellent: The Video

The video that comes with this deck is outstanding. It features Simon Lovell, and has over 2 hours of material. Simon walks you through the explanation of all the different tricks, including all the classic routines for the effects mentioned above. He's a wonderful and humorous teacher, and this DVD alone makes this product an excellent buy. Some tricks are fairly straight forward, but most are suitable for intermediate magicians who already have mastered basics sleights like controlling a card and the double lift, although Simon does also teach some of the required sleights. It's an excellent "next step" for beginners.

Recommendation

If you're interested in doing packet tricks, and are looking for a single product that has a variety of gaffs suitable for a range of tricks, this is probably the best you will find right now, given that it comes with a terrific instructional DVD.  For packet tricks and gaffed cards, it's hard to think of a product on the market which offers better value.  Highly recommended!
