Picked up a nice unopened sealed Bee deck last week. Stamp looks great and dates it between 1940-1965. Box is in amazing shape.  Check out the pics

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

That deck's in as close to a perfect condition as you're likely to find!  Awesome!

This is strictly a shot in the dark, but I'm thinking your deck is probably from the earlier years rather than the later ones of that time span, 1940-1965.  Unless the previous owner removed it, the deck wasn't wrapped in cellophane, so it would predate that practice.  I just have no idea when they started wrapping decks in cellophane.

Lee is our expert on cellophane but it certainly went back into the 1930's as I remember.

So far, we think cellophane was first used by USPC around the 1930s. It could be earlier because Dupont introduced it to the American masses around 1924.

Unless the previous owner removed it, the deck wasn't wrapped in cellophane...

@BadPete69 I'm confident this deck was originally wrapped in cellophane. Most likely, it tore-off before you acquired it. (Damn!)

With that said, it's still a beautiful specimen from our past. Treasure it!

Alex mentioned a while back that he purchased a deck sealer, allowing him to re-wrap decks in cellophane complete with tear strip.  Of course it's not the same as the original wrapping, but according to him it's an ideal way to protect decks that aren't wrapped.  Even if the box is deteriorating, the cellophane helps to retard further degradation so the deck can retain what relative value it presently has.  They're not terribly expensive, either.  Combine it with a deck jacket and you're going to have some solid protection for the better decks in your collection - or the ones most in need of TLC.
