So there's an auction on eBay right now for a set of Jerry's decks. I've been selling like a mad man lately and finally saved up enough to acquire a few more Jerry's Nuggets. Here is the auction:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/120864377689?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1431.l2649#ht_500wt_1413

A few things look a tad off in the picture, and there is a chance the decks are a very amazing replica. Here are my observations, as well as why I think they may be incorrect. All comparisons are made with my own decks of authentic Nuggets.

1. The "rippled" stamp-like seal on the real Jerry's has ripples that are more pronounced than the ones on these decks. However, that may be the way some of the seals are.

2. The seal on authentic Jerry's, and all other decks I own from that era, have their seals come further down on the front of the deck. This may just be a coincidence.

3. The cellophane on a real Jerry's deck tends to be much more tightly wrapped, and the cello on these decks looks very loose. Cellophane varies from deck to deck, and I don't know how often it varies for the Jerry's.

4. The red tear band is placed higher up on the auction decks than on real Jerry's or other vintage decks from that era. Tear bands can fluctuate in their placement.

5. That auction's tear band seems to be slightly thicker than typical decks from the 60s and 70s. It could be a trick of the camera.

I messaged the seller and asked him to verify that they are legitimate decks. He said that a friend of his gave them to him years ago, and that he wasn't a card collector and knew nothing about authenticity. He advised me to not bid if I am not sure that they are legitimate decks.

What's the community's thoughts?

Yeah, something does look a bit 'off' with these but I really don't know.  I'll let the guys who do take the lead on this on but persoanlly, I'd wait for another auction.

Its a very close call. They honestly don't look old. But I don't know much about Jerrys or other vintage decks.
Also, read the guys description... theres not much there.

Yeah it's a little ify. I honestly wouldn't bid on it unless I was extremely positive that they were authentic. In this specific situation I would wait for a more trustworthy auction. Just my 2 cents

That story about that guy not knowing if the jerry's are real or fake is pretty suspicious. Maybe he is lying and is selling fakes...

Good observation Alex, seems to me that the authenticity of these decks are doubtful. Misplaced stamp, thick and misplaced ribbon, loose cellophane. Could be the best replica of the Jerry's.

@runIt: The implications of a replica this good are a bit scary. I'm going to retract my bid on this one and wait for a real auction to come by. I want one more set of Jerry's.

If they were truly good replicas, they wouldn't have set off your Spidey sense, Alex.

The dirt under the still-sealed cellophane would be enough for me.  And that story's got to be the dumbest I've ever heard.

Dude's got a low rating, and I looked over his other items for sale.  One of them is a 101-year-old Chinese coin listed with "Free S/H to THE U.S" - why would it say that if the seller is supposedly in Ohio?

Even the bidder's eBay name is really bogus-looking.  Who names themselves "qwqwqq12"?  The descriptions in some of his other auctions definitely read like English isn't his native language.

My bullshit detector is pinging like mad on this.

I would stay away from these. Like people said, the seller looks fishy and the feedback for him is not good. I just think you should skip on this one.

Could be a modified replica; get a cheap one, buy a USPCC seal and reseal the cellophane.  Very possible.  In fact, I would think these could be real but have been resealed rather than being out and out fakes.

EDIT;

I reckon that's exactly what these are, actually; genuine Jerry's, just in bad shape and resealed.  In addition to everything else that's been discovered, look at the seal; they have a serrated edge on the left, like they've been torn off a strip.  Presumably, the buyer will never open them so who knows how bad shape they're in.  Could be cheap-o casino cards on the inside for all we know.

I went over his rating history - the guy's got enough negatives to sound dodgy, and he seems to have a never-ending supply of 100-year-old-plus Chinese and Japanese coins of the same model...

I think we've all come to the same conclusion - this buyer is not to be trusted, period.

Look at how the stain end up with a cello-sealed deck. Lol

Im always searching for jerry nugget's when i log in to ebay(I wish i could offered them but im always interested to see how expensive these decks get. I wish i knew in the 1990's so i could of bought bricks of them) back to the subject these did look kinda of odd. I hope that they are real, i would hate to pay in the 400's and to be fake.

That is kinda sad. If they get it and discover it is fake can they get a refund?

Ebay buyer protection may have them covered. But I doubt they would even notice ever becuause they probably won't open them.

My deck has more pronounced ridges on the stamp and is slightly further down on the deck. If I were you I would not have bid on it.

It really sucks for whoever is spending so much money on these. You'd think they'd make sure its left before spending over $500 on it.

Y'know, fools, money, one goes left, the other goes right...

Since when are Jerry's trading in that high a price range?  It wasn't more than a month or two ago that D&D had them for under $400 each.

Well you can never judge the price of a deck based on eBay right? The market price always fluctuates between a range. Guess some sucker just took the bullet this time around.
