Today I drove down to Gambler's General in north Vegas to see what they have. As soon as you walk in you're greeted with a view of well over 50,000 decks.

Most were the typical decks from USPCC. You had all of the Dragon Backs, the Decades decks, Hope for Haiti decks, etc. Then you had a megaload of cancelled & used casino decks (something that is completely uninteresting to me, but hey, they're there if you want them).

The real gems I will list below:

Cincinnati Rider Backs by the brick. There were tons of these. There were also loads of Cincinnati Bee and Aviator decks. There were about two bricks of Cincinnati Mohawk decks left as well, and I opened one to handle and they felt surprisingly great (almost on par with Steamboats for a smooth finish card). Before you think I go around opening random decks, know that the store actually has an open sample for you to try out of each deck.

The best part was finding one deck of Hoyle cards. Not USPCC Hoyles, but the original, vintage Hoyles from before the take over. I have yet to open the deck, and I am not sure that I will since it is a vintage piece. Either way, I was excited to see it and even more excited to buy it.

There were also bricks upon bricks of blue-seal Tally-Ho's but unfortunately they were all Pinochle.

That's really awesome! Sadly, I won't be able to visit that until I visit Vegas (If I visit Vegas that is). I can't imagine a store with that many decks. The most decks I've seen in a store is about a dozen, and those are usually cheap souvenir decks.
Most Recent Addition | White Lions | A. Bandit
Decks I Want | English Laundry | Bape x Bicycle Deck | Absolut Deck

That sounds like an epic store.

Going to have to add it to my list of things to go to when I am in vegas. I am either going in October for the Barrett Jackson car auction or heading to the Scottsdale Arizona one in January... but I will probably be going down for the 2013 Electric Daisy Carnival. What ever way, I should make it down there eventually.

That shop sounds AWESOME!  A guy could go broke there pretty fast, I imagine...

I just learned USPC bought that company a few years back.  This is the same company as on the website, right?  Why the hell don't they offer more online!?

And yes, Don, they got bought out by the USPCC. I honestly think their selection is not very good outside of standard USPCC decks. I expected a variety of vintage decks under their glass display but found nothing of interest.

They also have millions of casino poker chips as well, and books on gambling.

That sounds really awesome, it's a shame they didn't have any standard tallies though.
Poker chips kind of interest me, I'd start collecting them but my wallet won't let me start another collection anytime soon... So cards get the priority. ;)

Y'see, now that sounds like more of a let-down...  :(

I'm sure there were plenty - just not with the blue seals verifying their Ohio origin.  Black seal is more common these days, and even the Ohio-marked boxes could be Kentucky-made decks if the seal is black.

The Tallies were Ohio boxes with black seals, which means the card stock is from the Erlanger plant. I have every kind of Tally under the sun, and I can tell you there is a significant and huge difference between blue-seal Cincinnati Tallies and black-seal "Cincinnati" Tallies, but there is no difference between the black-seals and the Erlanger Tallies.

Mystery is the basic appeal of magic. Once the secrets are known, the magician becomes a mere manipulator, an actor in a suspense drama which has little impact because the audience knows the ending in advance.

That store sounds epic! You're lucky you live in the gambling capital of the U.S.A. Here in upstate NY we have target and walmart. Also a costume store which has a magic section and about 10 decks which I have already  :-[

This makes me want to go to Las Vegas so much! Unfortunately though, I have yet to get a job. And I'm guessing the vast majority of any money I have will be going towards my accomodation in Sydney for Uni.
But in like 5 or 6 years, after Uni, I'll be sure to go! Mind you, I doubt they'd have any Ohio decks left by then...
Oh, well. :P

I wish there was a store like that in my town, but along with all the decks it would be awesome if it had some tables so people could sit down and have a card jam session!

What part of NY?  I have some family about 30 mins. west of Kingston.

I wish there was a store like that in my town, but along with all the decks it would be awesome if it had some tables so people could sit down and have a card jam session!

At Tannen's in midtown Manhattan, there's a table with a few chairs, and usually someone showing off their newest trick or sleight - plus a pretty decent collection of anything currently or recently in stock, deck-wise.

Relax, dude - you were probably a kid back then, right?  Either that or you were on a gambling and drinking bender with the bros...  :))

Oh I was a grown up (I'm definitely on the upper tier of ages around here) but was more concerned with either having fun in the casinos, having fun with my wife, or going to parties. Now that I'm all old and boring I wish I'd branched out a little.  ;)

Yeah, sounds like you had a REALLY boring time, not buying any cards and all that - makes me wonder why you kept going back...  :))

Upper tier?  = or < 44?  (You can guess why I picked that number...)
