Hmm from what I can see from the box it looks interesting, but most likely something I wouldn't pick up if I ever saw especially with the seller not supplying any pictures of whats inside the box
Mystery is the basic appeal of magic. Once the secrets are known, the magician becomes a mere manipulator, an actor in a suspense drama which has little impact because the audience knows the ending in advance.

Haha I like it! I'd be guessing it's not good for handling. Also it's probably not anything amazing on the design level but it looks cool. Funny design with all the complex ones we see now-a-days. Good find!

With no manufacture name and no pics of the card faces this deck is a complete mystery.
I'm sure the back of the box is the card back but for all we know they can have uber simple, basic court cards and faces that look awesome because of the simplicity or.... an even more unlikely theory, uber crazy hectic beautifully  designed court cards and an ace of spades greater than tally hos, using only the name Basic to mask the truth!

But this is all basless conjecture so carrots  :-X

Well the back of the box is the back design a lot of times. So maybe the back of the box for this deck, is the back design.

That initial picture was hysterical!  I was definitely LOL, at my deck at work - good thing no one was around watching me act like an idiot.

This was a promo deck for Basic brand cigarettes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_%28cigarette%29

It's a popular but budget-priced brand from Philip Morris.  They've had dealings with the USPC in the past for manufacturing playing card promos, so it's not beyond possible these are USPC-made.  As far as handling, well - look at the Virginia Slims decks.  Anything is possible, and for the price, it couldn't hurt to try bidding; you could discover previously undiscovered playing-card gold.

Not exactly...  Meant to say desk.  It's in a public space, but the view is presently dominated by massive amounts of construction, ongoing for the next several years.

I'm glad someone said something about the cigarettes. I mean, these are no different than the Marlboro or Camel cards...garb

Looks-wise, I agree.  But no one knows what they're like performance-wise.  The Virginia Slims deck was kinda off-beat and quirky-looking, certainly nothing you'd see in a serious card game.  But they're sought after for the stock and finish - they're supposed to be excellent for cardistry.  Who knows if this is another such gem, still waiting to be discovered?

Bahaha! I found one of these decks in my parents' basement a few years ago. I knew they were from a cigarette company but they were so unremarkable that I couldn't find anything else about them so I gave up trying to find out more.

They are from USPCC, and the Ace of spades seems to indicate that it was made in 1994 (EDIT: possibly 1974). They have Arrco faces with the dark red ink for pips, and I think they're printed on Bicycle stock with regular old Air cushion finish.

Basic brand cigarettes didn't exist in '74, so it's from '94.  They came around in the '80s as a budget alternative to more expensive brands.

How do they handle?  Or how did they handle when they weren't as old?
