Design & Development / ISO Designer for Project
« on: January 10, 2021, 07:01:16 PM »
Greetings Playing Card friends,

I'm in search of a designer to work with me on a new project.  The project is to celebrate a company's 25th anniversary.  At the very least I'm looking for a back design, custom jokers, a custom Ace of Spades, and insert cards.  It might include custom court cards.  Right now I'm not thinking it will include custom pips, but maybe?  Preference given if you have done at least a few design jobs before.  Considering a few different printers but currently leaning towards Shuffled Ink.  You will be working as part of a team what will help with the creative.  If you have any questions, please reach out to me directly.

Thanks.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: New deck of cards sequence

Thanks for the info on why the decks come as they are Don.  Good stuff.

And, Don's suggestions about starter magic DVDs, etc are right on the money.

Great job.  Best of luck with the launch.

Introduce Yourself / Re: Hello from Denver! (and the other PCF)

Welcome.  Fairly new myself as well.  What's the "coolest" poker chip you have in your collection?  Do you specialize in a certain type etc?

7
Thanks for the heads up.  What is the symbolism of the roses on the tuck case?  What can you share about who will be doing the printing, stock, finish  etc.  Good luck with the project.

Design & Development / Re: Feedback on custom deck

Thanks for the glimpse into this project and good luck as you retool and jump into Kickstart the next time.  There is a lot of good advice above especially about drumming up attention/demand as you go to conventions.  Where did you get your prototype deck printed?

9
Wasn't there also a "secret" way to get them by putting another deck in your cart and then switching to these via a code?  On one level I kinda like the marketing gimmick of "you can't get them"...on another had...it is just a gimmick.

10
What deck would you most closely compare this to?

Thanks for the review.  I love the idea of these "old style" casino decks that seem to be popping up.  Form a "magic" POV, do you think it matters to a spec if the casino isn't "real"??

Does the messages feature of this forum work?  Do most members use it?

The Source - Card Collecting 101 / Re: How Does the Source Work?
« on: April 11, 2017, 08:30:34 AM »
I'm not sure where to post this so I'm going to start here and see where this goes.  I've had a deck of cards in my hands since I was young and always kinda "had decks around" but never really "collected" them.  I'm looking to learn more about cards and collecting in general.  I have a few decks left from over the years as well as 10/20 older (maybe 1950s??) decks that I got from a magic shop owner/performer that passed away.

My question is this...Where do I start?  Should my first priority be to properly store the decks?  Would the next step be to go through them one by one and learn about the deck and it's value?  I'm more interested in learning that I am discovering that I have a "hidden gem" in my collection.  How did you get starting in learning about your decks etc?  Do I get a copy of Hochman's and start digging?...or...as far as researching my decks...would Hochman's not be helpful since it only goes up to the 1930s?...and...Does anyone prefer the printed edition over the digital edition? etc.

Thanks for your help in getting me started.

Anyone "in the know" know anything about any decks Blaine might be producing to sell at these events etc?

It's threads like this that I love to read and really help me begin to understand what goes on behind the scenes in creating a deck.  From a design standpoint, I agree, the work feels "unfinished" and not on a level where I would be proud to own this deck.  All of the printing etc. details seem messy.  Thanks for the insight from "senior" members of this board.

HI Randy,

Thanks for the welcome.  I'm in the Detroit area.  I went to Central as well for a bit.  Go Fire Up Chips!  We should eat an insane size meal together at Tony's one day!  Excited to be a part of the forum and get more involved.

I have the same question Enders.  But, I'm also new to this forum so there is a lot I don't understand yet.  Excited to hear a mod or senior member way in.  If you do have more "Reputation", what does that mean on the board etc?  Happy collecting all.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Marquis Playing Cards - coming soon!

There is a lot to like about this deck.  The unique take on the court cards gives it a fun vibe that I miss from most decks to try to stay too "classy".  But, the back designed is elegant.
