  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

Not sure this is still current, but I recon a battle between WhiteKuckles and Jones Playing Cards would be interesting.  I'm barracking for Jones Playing Cards although the Wk's with their 'wisdom' being older might put up a good fight.

It's not current any longer - the last post before yours was over 30 months ago.  You do pose an interesting match-up, though.  I was curious about the Jones cards, but now that I've seen this image you uploaded, I can see they're a modified version of the WhiteKnuckle faces - not surprising as they have the same artist.

FYI: it's "reckon," not "recon" - two totally different words!  And what is "barracking," exactly?  Can't tell if it has to do with Barack Obama or military barracks...  :))

Thanks for the reply.  I'm Australian so we have different spelling and barracking might be an Aussie term too.  It is like backing/rooting/supporting enthusiastically/beating on etc.

The Jones Playing Cards are much more than a revamp.  They are apparently as the designer intended the WKs to be.  I admit to have inside info as I have become his studio manager and have gotten to know the whole design story pretty well!

You should post the story, then!  We should have an old topic on the Jones deck and I know we have at least one old topic on the WhiteKnuckles.  I guarantee people here will want to know the tale!

In fact, if you're willing to write an article about them, I'd be willing to publish it in the 52 Plus Joker Club's monthly magazine, CARD CULTURE.  I'm the editor.  We have a print quarterly as well, Clear the Decks, but CtD focuses more on antique decks while CC covers modern and vintage better.

How interesting Don.http://www.playingcardforum.com/Smileys/aaron/smiley.gif  That would be an interesting project.  How many words are we talking?  Layout?  Images? We are rather busy preparing for an exhibition where the cards feature boldly.  But we could certainly do that.  Brett actually has his own annual magazine.  The forth one just came out and the decks are introduced in this one.  So we are used to writing and deadlines.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Morning Don,

Could we communicate via email regarding an article in Card Culture?  How does it work on forums giving out personal emails?  You could visit the website and an email address is found there. (www.seaofpain.com).  I did look on the 52 Plus Joker site for your name but didn't find it.  I have printed off the special edition and we will have a read to get a feel for the style.  A plan is formulating!

Cheers

I'm sorry for not being in touch sooner - I've been on vacation and a little busy.  The magazine has a list of officers and magazine staff on the Content page with a list of contact email addresses.  The address for reaching the magazine (or me at the magazine) is CardCultureLetters - at - gmail - dot - com.
