Playing Card Plethora / Bee Tech Art Deck, Red Seal, from 2005
« on: May 11, 2017, 09:47:34 PM »
Does anyone have any background or information about this deck? I've never seen them before now. It's a Bee tech art deck with the bumblebee in the window, and decks are dated 2005. Front of tuck looks like any other Bee deck from the period. Any info would be appreciated.

Design & Development / Japanese Garden - New concept needs feedback
« on: May 04, 2017, 05:13:36 PM »
I've got several ideas in the hopper currently, but this is one I've had a lot of fun with lately. I am planning on probably going with recolored ARRCO faces, and doing custom jokers, but here is what I have so far.

The red sunburst I would like to see about doing in a red metallic foil, like the Bicycle MetalLuxe cards feature. I think that would look really cool.

The green came out much brighter than originally intended - imagine it a little more muted (working on this)

The tuck will have more included, but the front is pretty much what I want. Extremely minimalist. The Japanese text says "Japanese Garden".

Being that I live where there is no 7-11 anywhere nearby, and I had to have some of these decks, I had a family member purchase a bunch for me. She got a couple dozen apparently, so I'm good!

I wanted to gauge interest in these here on this board, as I plan on selling a bunch on eBay as well. I am willing to give a discount to forum members from what I plan on selling them there for.

I'll go 5 bucks a deck + 3 bucks shipping. I'm willing to sell about 10 decks here if there is interest. Shipping from NC. I should have them in my hands within 2 weeks.

Design & Development / Design & Dev Questions
« on: April 24, 2017, 12:13:18 PM »
I'm working on a couple of different designs/concepts. For one of them, I really would like to use classic ARRCO courts and recolor them. Does anyone know where one would obtain a vector (or hi res raster) pack of ARRCO faces for design? I have already found several good source files for USPC-related standard faces - but no ARRCO.

Another question - I am curious about how an outside company is able to reproduce a USPCC vintage design. For instance, Deckso (spelling?) reproduced the vintage All Wheel Back No. 2 I believe in 2012 and released it. Obviously, this is a design that USPCC owns - yet a private company reproduced it and released it under the Bicycle banner. How does this work? How does a company like Deckso make any money on a design they don't own and didn't create? Any feedback on this process would be appreciated.

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / NY Consolidated Bee Deck Question
« on: April 23, 2017, 03:22:47 PM »
I just purchased this deck for a song, and I can't seem to find out much about it. Older Bee decks I've seen say "Standard" and "Made in the USA" on the front of the tuck - this one says "The NY Consolidated Card Co" - can someone tell me what they know about this? Thanks!

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / Help Identify this Deck?
« on: April 20, 2017, 12:12:07 PM »
Doing some browsing online and saw this deck. This is the only picture provided, and there is no other identifying information. Which company did the AoS like this with the number "8" in the center?

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / Question for the experts
« on: April 08, 2017, 12:36:30 PM »
I've got a bike bridge deck from 1953, and the bottom of the tuck says "High Finish". Was high finish the standard for these bridge decks, or is this an outlier? Thanks!

Found at a flea market! Lots of wear on the box, but the cards are still crisp and bright.

Ok, I'll give the new board a shot... if anyone is into antique international swap cards you'll probably never see anywhere else, I've got just the thing for you.

This binder collection is something you will never see again anywhere. It is filled with Ace of Spades and Joker playing cards from all over the world; some 70, 80, or more years old. Many brands have been out of print for half a century. There are about 200 cards in this collection.

All cards are in pristine condition and are well kept in archival sleeves (2 out of over 200 have some writing on them - other than that, they are all crisp and undamaged). Some sleeves have 3 or 4 cards in them, so there are actually more cards than what is pictured in the images! These are international cards from all over the world. The binder features cards from Israel, Switzerland, Austria, China, Japan, all over Europe, Asia, etc. Way too many to list! Many you will never see anywhere but here. These are extremely collectible, and would be an incredible and impressive conversation piece when you display your collection for others to see.

This binder is full of some of the most beautiful playing card artwork in the world. This would surely be a centerpiece of any serious international collector's antique collection.

You are bidding on a binder full of ace of spades and joker playing cards from all over the world, and from all over the 20th century. These are not complete decks! Many feature 2 or more cards from the same deck.

Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Awesome Close-Up Mat.... Under $1
« on: September 22, 2014, 05:34:27 PM »
I was fooling around in Hobby Lobby today, and I saw something that I thought might work as a close-up mat. It's a foam craft panel, and it was a mere 89 cents. Bought it to try out, and it works as good if not better than a high dollar close-up mat sold for cardistry and magic. Just a tip for those living on a budget like myself!

So I'm still new to this, and trying to figure it out. I consider myself a cautious collector to some extent, and actually rather enjoy trying to fund my collecting through sales of other decks that I may have a surplus of. I don't strictly purchase on those grounds however - I must actually like the deck myself. That said, future performance of a deck is important to me. Why is it that some decks out there on the custom sites mentioned above, are introduced at say, $5.95 a deck - they sell out at some point, and the price is driven up significantly in the aftermarket; whereas other decks are introduced at a similar price, and are continually produced, meaning the value never really increases? How does one get the inside intel on this - or is it just a guessing game?

Let me add specifics: The new T11 Tycoons I like a lot. They are beautiful cards. Regardless, I'm going to purchase a few decks for myself. However, if I was to have an educated guess that these decks are going to go the way of the Red Artifice, or Blue Rounders, or [name your own highly sought after out of print deck] - I'll purchase a brick or two, hold onto them, and make a few bucks in the long run. If they're going to pretty much stick around forever like Guardians or Steampunks, or whatever, I'll just pick up a couple for my own benefit. So the basic question is - is it simply a guessing game that every collector puts their finger in the wind and takes a wild guess as to the outcome - or is there some inside information, or publication, or wizard of inside the card world guru out there that offers insight that I don't know about?

Thank you for whatever insight or input you have on this.

Playing Card Plethora / So I won the last Club 808 Contest...
« on: September 08, 2014, 04:52:29 PM »
Club 808 is releasing the Norwood uncut sheets soon, and since I won the last contest, they sent me two sheets today. Pretty cool piece of USPC history. It's designed to never be cut into a deck, but displayed as a poster. It's a collage of scenes and locations from their Norwood plant before the move to Kentucky. The Bicycle AoS says "The End" where it normally has the date code. Here's a partial image of the sheet: http://www.bicyclecards.com/808/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Contest2.jpg

Hey guys, i just purchased for what i think was a good price the deck mentioned in the title. I think it was Asad from 52 kards that said it was his favorite deck. USPC apparently was experimenting with their new block logo and did a very limited run of these cards. A few ended up in the gift shop in cincinnati, and the rest were destroyed from what i hear. What do you know about these, and how much do you think theyre worth? Thanks!

Design & Development / New Concept - What Do You Guys Think?
« on: September 05, 2014, 04:14:47 PM »
As I have stated before, I am a veteran designer, but a playing card newbie. This is my first attempt at a back design. Would appreciate any feedback - thanks!

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / Insane Vintage Collection found!
« on: August 20, 2014, 08:33:14 PM »
Hey guys, i was browsing an antique store, and stumbled onto this gem. Its a meticulously kept binder of ace of spades and jokers from all over the world, some at least 70 or 80 years old. I will post some images in several replies as well. Any insight or feedback would be appreciated!

Warning: there's a few vintage "nudie" cards in there...

Playing Card Plethora / Walgreen's Studs
« on: August 13, 2014, 09:22:57 AM »
Hey guys - I have heard a lot of buzz about Walgreen's Stud cards from magicians and cardists, and how they love the feel and vintage look. I found an old Walgreen's in a small town that had a shelf full of them, and after seeing what they're going for on Ebay, I bought the whole lot. Most of them are Jumbo Index unfortunately, but I think the demand would still be in excess of the $2.50 a deck I paid. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could provide a little history of these. I know Dan and Dave reproduced them for a while, so is it true that all original Studs manufactured for Walgreen's are Ohio made? What year did they discontinue them?

Playing Card Plethora / Coca Cola Bicycle Deck
« on: August 09, 2014, 05:03:55 PM »
Found 5 decks of coke cards in an old grocery store today. The cards are 2010 series and not old, but appealed to me anyway. Anyone know about these cards? Are they in abundance, or sort of hard to come by? I really like the art, and the feel of these. They seem to have somerhing other than the standard air cushion finish typically from bicycle.

Playing Card Plethora / Question about Casino Decks
« on: August 08, 2014, 05:26:58 PM »
Hey guys - I'm new here and new to collecting. I found some used casino decks here locally in pretty good condition for only about a dollar a deck. What are the things to look for in these decks? Are they desirable? I'm a Bicycle fan first and foremost, but i didn't want to pass up a good opportunity if it in fact is one. Thanks!

Introduce Yourself / Hey everybody!
« on: August 07, 2014, 09:12:14 PM »
My name is Ben, and i am brand new to collecting and card magic. I became interested in card magic watching some of the youtube pros. I decided that I wanted to learn their ways! I quickly fell in love with bicycle decks, and am now starting a collection. Its been exciting just looking for the classic cincinnati decks in older stores around town. Something about that classic box with rider back printed on it i love. I have some basic beginner questions along these lines - where would be the best place to ask? I love the site! Found it googling card info. Thanks!
