A Cellar of Fine Vintages / Always fun to hit my local antique shop...
« on: January 28, 2015, 05:42:41 PM »
I'm still learning my vintage ways, but today I hit my local antique store, I pop in now and then and can usually find some older Bee decks and Ohio Bikes. Today I picked up 4 Ohio Jumbo Index Bikes, 2 sealed and 2 open. Then the, I can't pass it up part. A nice old Bicycle 808 Tangent Back, an old Stud and Streamline deck. The best part, I only spent $4.00  :D

Now I many not be able to retire on these, but the 808, Stud and Streamline have me doing some homework, so any help is appreciated.

Playing Card Plethora / Tally Ho Viper question
« on: April 13, 2014, 06:58:42 PM »
So I've been back tracking in my collection for a while now to pick up a few decks that I just want in my collection. I was looking into the Ohio UV500 Vipers and read on the Playing Card Wiki that there were some tuck differences.

I was wondering if there was any story behind the most obvious one, the word "Viper" missing from one. Just curious.

Hey Everyone,
Some of you may already know and some may not. Recently I partnered with Ivan at Kardify.com to write my monthly interview/articles. It's a great opportunity and I think a great fit for both of us. The segment is called 1 on 1 and will be the usual biographical content as much as possible.

So March is our 1st instalment and I couldn't have asked for a better subject, Lee McKenzie. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did putting it together.

Hey everyone, this is a re-boot of a thread I've used on another collecting forum. And while we have some real Eagle Eyes around here when it comes to deals, it would be nice to just have to tag yourself to one thread to be informed of what's out there.

So please post the following in this thread:
Deals
Promotions
Sales
Retail Sales (Walgreen's, Target, etc...)
Giveaways
eBay Listings*

* As for eBay listings I look at it this way. More eyes watching the better chance of finding something great. Not to mention everyone has their own search criteria that works for them. In the end, its a simple scenario, I've come across a great deal on something but just didn't have the money to purchase it, why not pass it along to a fellow collector that may be interested in it.

Happy Hunting!

Playing Card Plethora / The Novelty Deck line
« on: February 04, 2014, 01:05:11 PM »
Now that I feel I've been around long enough and see how many decks are really out there and available at any given time, along with exposure to other parts of the Playing Card community I have a simple question.

When does a deck cross the line into the "Novelty" category? Don had written up a quick little list of categories with explanations of what would be considered a "Standard" deck, a "Semi-Custom" and "Complete Custom" deck. By definition, a novelty deck is basically a 100% custom deck, is it not? Now I'm not talking about vacation type Disney Cards although some older ones I'm sure would be on a must have list of vintage collectables. Not the cards you find cello wrapped in KB Toys of Spiderman.

Is there a theme that crosses that line? Maybe a style or presentation that forces it over to a Novelty deck? Or is the term just that, a term....but in that case, what is that term referring to.

I'm really curiouse to hear opinions, discuss  :)

Hey all,
So I know there have been a few members looking into these frames for their collections. I had a chance to talk to Mike at CPC about the ones he has and was nice enough to let me grab one for a mini "Review" of sorts. I swear on my children I'm not getting a dime for any of this, just trying to help the community here out. I know one of the questions was a concern about the frame sagging due to the weight of the cards.

These frames are solid and made of very thick acrylic. I was able to take the one he has on display off the wall and it basically felt like a solid box frame. That was the other nice thing, wasn't super heavy even with 60 decks in the frame. Easy to remove and put back up. They mount flat on the wall because there is a "Bumper" on the bottom back side so decks don't lean forward in the frame.

Some other pluses. fits 12 decks per row exactly, nice snug fit, but easy to remove if needed. There is just enough spacing above each row of decks to be able to pull out a deck without issue.

The frames are laser cut and the channel for the clear plexiglass window is cut into the frame. It's not an additional piece of clear plastic that may yellow over time.

After talking to CPC for a bit, Mike was open to offering a limited time discount to any discourse members who were interested in these frames. He isn't offering a code to use, but if you PM me, I can tell you what to do and what the discount is.

Again, I can't stress enough that I'm doing this to help out the members of Discourse with an option for their collections. Sparkz gets no kick back, lol

I took a few pics for you, if you have any questions, please ask.

Available in 2 sizes- 60 Decks (Below) and a 16x16 that holds 24 Decks

Playing Card Plethora / R.E. Hand Crafted
« on: January 28, 2014, 10:29:50 PM »
Hey everyone, I recently had the opportunity to do a little writing for Loop Cuts and with that opportunity I also realized how much I enjoy writing about the community of people involved in Playing Cards in a various ways.

I just finished up an article I did with Ryan Edwards from R.E Hand Crafted and with the recent announcement of Loop Cuts not continuing to support the blog I decided to add a Blog to my site to hopefully continue to write. I hope you give it a read, Ryan's a pretty cool guy with a great story.

Thanks,
Sparkz (Tony)

Hey all I'm looking for the Red Artifice and Blue Bloods, one or two decks. The most high profile decks I have to trade would be the Legends v2's, I have Black, Red and Blue. I have some others for trade, but figured these would be the "Latest and Greatest"

If your looking for ANYTHING in particular, please don't hesitate to send a PM with any other offers.

Thanks!

***UPDATE: Black decks are gone.
