c.1940-1965 Extremely Rare Bee "Smooth Finish" Sealed 1Cent Square Tax Stamp

I think you got the tax stamp description a little mixed up.  That's a 1940-1965 rectangular "1 Pack" tax stamp.  There was a square "1 Pack" stamp in use at the time that resembled your "Class A" stamp, but those are clearly rectangular.

Was there a square "10 Cents" stamp on something that you didn't show us?  Those were in use right after your "Class A" stamp, followed by the rectangular version in '29.

Don, there is indeed a square 1 Pack Tax Stamp c.1940-1965… It's on the Smooth Finish Bees that Jackson was showing… See the pic below…

Reference the following for additional tax stamp dating info… http://www.endebrock.de/stamps/st-usa.html

Joseph… So glad to see you here… The pics are just magnificent… What a collection…

Looking Good Jackson… Are these artists under contract to you, or do they work independently as well?  As for the name, it could be because the decks you produce are the $#!T… Couldn't resist… On a serious note, is the deck Bee Branded?  Good luck with this… A lot of great things seem to be coming down the pipeline…

One of my all time favorites alongside the Tiffany Harlequin Deck… One day I hope to look down in my hand and smile before putting them away in my collection…  :karrit:

Imagine, a deck release that DOESN'T USE KICKSTARTER! The horror!  The insanity!  :P

The horror for me is not that you're moving forward without kickstarter… I actually rather like that… The horror for me is that you're moving forward without USPCC… I know that some designers and/or companies are using printers overseas and I fully understand that USPCC is not the only printer in the world… However, I do have such a strong attachment to USPCC and have sold off much of my collection that isn't printed with USPCC excluding companies which merged early on… i.e.; Russell Morgan, Consolidated, etc…  That being said, Paul, I've been a fan since day one and it's looking really nice, from what little I can see from the pics… I also like the ltd. print run… Given all the business you've done with USPCC, are they still not open to printing a smaller run, or is it they can no longer accomplish the things that you need done for this deck? I don't know, there seems to be a continuity for me when a designer uses the same printer and what can I say, I like that there is such a rich history involving the USPCC, given they originated in the United States, and that they started over a century ago quickly to become the greatest force in the world when it comes to quality and still today, they maintain their place as the leading playing card company in the world… There is something very moving about their heritage combined with a striking design that is a winning combination for me, unlike flipping over the box to read, "Made in China…"  I do however, wish you the best of luck in producing another great deck and if I am able to break from tradition, I am wondering how one could acquire the deck?  Did I miss this?  Let's see some more pics as well…

Are they giving away a free printer with these?  :P

And if they did I still wouldn't want them...

Again, it's educated guesswork - except for the part about the whiskeys, which I learned on the History Channel.  And of course, the part about Erlanger, which is common knowledge around here.

All educated guesswork - Come now Don… You can share with us that you learned about the whiskey the old fashioned way… glass by glass… (Which isn't a bad idea right now considering it feels like -5 degrees right now)…

Taylor… Glad to see you join here… Didn't know that was you… Why does everyone keep changing up their screen names or was it UC or eBay I knew you from?  Anyways… Good to see you posting here…

Tom… So what's the verdict?  Have you ever seen a Bicycle Deck appear without the Bicycle AoS or Bicycle Joker?
Neither Judy or I have ever seen a Bicycle deck with a generic Ace or Joker. As the Leaf back seems to have been called Oak Leaf by USPC in their 1940-50 period Bicycle decks, it is from our view, based on what we have seen, an Uncle Sam/generic deck in a Bicycle box with the same back.
More on this tomorrow.
Latest information and my last post on this topic. Email from an eminent Bicycle collector
"based on my experience, the Oak Leaf deck did indeed come with the generic Uncle Sam ace and joker in a Bicycle box. I also have two MS Oak Leaf decks that I might steam open to see if I can provide any more information. I also have a US8c joker and a US8c pinochle deck. I don't know why Mrs. Robinson called this deck simply "Leaf" as I have never seen any evidence that it was ever called anything other than "Oak Leaf" by USPCC"

The plot thickens… Wow… So after all of this, you're saying this could actually be a legitimate deck??? I don't know how I feel about this… Perhaps consulting a few more veteran collectors… I don't see why they'd ever print such a deck without the Bicycle Joker or Ace of Spades, when this is indeed a "Bicycle" deck… Not buying it… I think the checks and balances system, albeit now more advanced, wouldn't have allowed this…

That's what I think… However, I am still perplexed as to why the box states, "Oak Leaf Back," when it is indeed an ordinary "Leaf Back…" Is this as Taylor states?  Did USPC make such errors in the past? If so, do these errors become more valuable?  Thanks for your thoughts and to help clarify…

To expand on the previous thought, have there been any known errors in USPC history that have impacted the value of that particular deck?

Since John B. hasn't posted pics, are we discussing the War Series Decks?  If so, I think our own Mr. & Mrs. Dawson are the proud owners of one of the very few complete sets known to exist… Don - I'm going to have to say in the high thousands… Low thousands per deck…

Card Conjurer… This is not a personal attack on you, but rather I am just trying to get to the bottom of this situation… No one is accusing you of knowingly misrepresenting an item, as I'm sure it happens accidentally more times than one may think (and I'm sure not by accident  also more times than one may think)…  I do indeed find it odd that the box clearly has a pic on the back of what is clearly not an Oak Leaf back, but is labeled "Oak Leaf…"  The deck, however, is another story… I do believe that this is not a Bicycle deck, as there is no Bicycle Joker or Bicycle Ace of Spades… Perhaps Mr. Dawson could weigh in on this debate…

« on: January 20, 2014, 02:02:43 AM »
Although the auction has ended, I am quite certain that this deck was misrepresented in the auction in a number of ways…
1) The deck is referred to as an Oak Leaf back, when in fact it is actually a plain Leaf back refer to pics of an actual Oak Leaf back…
2) It should be noted that even though this is a Leaf back deck, in this case, the Ace and Joker belong to a deck other than a Bicycle brand deck of cards; perhaps a Bee deck, Uncle Sam deck, or other deck that shared the same back, but was called a different name… Thus, the box pictured did not actually belong to the deck shown…

22
Finally a kickstarter I can get behind… But in all seriousness, it's good to see that some things never change… Victor still as popular as ever…  ;D

23
Lee… The card that has "Angel Back" printed on it is an Ad Card?

This looks like the bastard child of a chromed-out Harley from Count's Kustoms and the humping robot from "Robot Chicken"...

In case you don't understand what I meant by that - PASS.

Don… That's being very disrespectful to both Count's Kustoms and Robot Chicken…

No one's questioning the amount of time that was put into the deck… However, you're trying to correlate the amount of time spent designing to the high price… Again, I'm not mad at you for trying to make a $, but let's call a spade a spade ;) I'm sure other exemplary designers spent far more time designing their decks, but did not feel that should translate to collectors paying more for the decks (not all the time anyway)...
