Playing Card Plethora / Cartamundi buys USPCC.
« on: June 05, 2019, 01:27:04 AM »
From the source -- https://cartamundi.com/en/press/cartamundi-acquire-united-states-playing-card-company/

I hope USPCC remains an independent entity or subsidiary as it has under Newell and Jarden, both catch-all household conglomerates. Even though the US manufacturing facilities probably won't be affected at all, I still don't know what I'd think of USPCC headquarters in Belgium. It was tough enough getting used to Kentucky.

If USPCC does adopt the Cartamundi name, imagine the Kickstarter projects --

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / NR10 - Ideal Non-revoke
« on: August 11, 2018, 04:11:55 PM »
Brown clubs, green diamonds, red hearts, black spades, 52+J+ad+blank, gilded, slipcase, matched pair.

I really like having these and they get more attention than a lot of the decks I have. This might be the last series, since I haven't seen Series "H" or beyond. I can't be sure.

Playing Card Plethora / Old decks for 2017!
« on: September 20, 2017, 06:57:21 PM »
I picked up six decks from Walgreens yesterday with 2017 copyright dates. On all of these, the fine print now shows
"A subsidiary of Newell Brands, Inc."
instead of Jarden. Five of these are new, familiar releases.

Old / new decks -
Bicycle Black Tiger Deck (I haven't looked for changes - shows Performance Coating still)
Bicycle Steam Punk (Theory11 - These now come in GOLD)
Bicycle Emotions (same graphics as the old Kickstarter, seal is now standard, not custom)
Stud Poker
Stud Jumbo Index

I've got a pair of High Finish Rider Backs up for sale on eBay. This is the 2nd of 2 pair I'm willing to part with.

Find them here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/302256834953.

The auction ends tuesday, 28 march 2017. They're a little nicer than the first pair I sold last week.

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / 1902 British Joker?
« on: January 12, 2017, 12:40:27 AM »
So here is a deck of De la Rue cards from King Edward VII's coronation, june 1902. I love the tiny indices and the quality, colorful printing on the backs. Let's talk about that joker, though. I found a one-off reference to jokers finally being "allowed" into French-style decks in 1902 (http://www.numericana.com/answer/cards.htm).

There are absolutely no indentations where the word Joker appears on the card. I'm lead to believe that the text might have been stamped on the card. (The line weight and ink coverage don't suggest handwriting; felt tipped pens weren't popular until the 1950s; who would both have ~and write on~ a spare 2 of diamonds on a card that was already 50 years old?

Does anyone have a De la Rue joker from 1902 or earlier?

Since I had good luck re:Norwood Uncut, I thought I'd throw this out there...

Does anyone have any of the Club 808 decks in surplus they'd part with at a good price? They come up $reasonably on eBay, but (thanks to life and work) I keep missing them.

They were up at bicyclecards.com for $20 for a long time "until sold out." I finally went to buy one after a couple weeks up in Canada and, of course, they sold out. I know I should have purchased sooner.

Anyone know where I can get one reasonably priced?

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / Antique shop finds

There is no Ace of spades. This is a 47/52 deck I saw today that I found intriguing that I didn't buy. Any ID from just the card back?

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / 666 Casino - USPCC
« on: October 23, 2015, 08:47:10 PM »
I have another mystery deck that just won't google. There's a die-cut hole to show you the backs (which match the printed box anyway). The tongue of the box is pretty big, but not odd-shaped. I love this joker.
I'm surprised to find only English on the box, owing to the VDR and 1s on the cards.

Any info or other examples out there?

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / US39 - Little-Duke - can't date.
« on: May 27, 2015, 08:51:11 PM »
I've got a deck of Little-Duke playing cards with no AoS date code. There's a partial tax stamp that appears to be any of the 1924 and earlier stamps. The text Toy Cards does not appear on the box. The only other time I've seen the text Playing Cards in lieu of Toy Cards is in a thread found here:
http://www.playingcardforum.com/index.php?topic=7542.msg108829#msg108829
Those 2 decks don't appear to come from the same lot (US39 and US39a showing, different stamps).

Can someone offer help to narrow down the date of the cards?

Introduce Yourself / I'm skinny.
« on: May 22, 2015, 01:54:28 AM »
Dallas, TX here.

I'm a collector whose interest started with card playing. My dad taught me how to play poker back in the 70s and I've played recreationally since.

I've got about 500 decks that follow no specific theme. I like rare decks more than valuable decks. It's more fun for me to find a $5 Little-Duke deck than tossing out $25 to get a couple beautiful crowd-funded decks. I'll pick up any deck I don't already have at estate sales if they're a dollar. That's led me to have lots of cards with no real collectable value that I'm still glad to have. Kickstarter has definitely processed a few transactions on my behalf though.

Most recent:
No. 24 Little-Duke
10 opened 86 Bicycle Bridge Doily Back
non-repro sealed Steamboats

Current favorites:
Bicycle Oak Leaf Back
Detroit 250th Anniversary advertising decks

Most anticipated:
Delicious Deck

It's fun not just lurking here any more!

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / 1916 NYCCC sealed, but no tuck.
« on: May 14, 2015, 01:19:51 AM »
I've come across a deck that is wrapped in paper with the appropriately cancelled and dated USIR tax stamp. It's a deck well known from the 1910s. The decks (2 decks (red/blue), one sealed) came with a rack of bakelite chips in a leather/leatherette case. The case has no embossing, labelling, or indicators of any kind. The chips are also featureless.

Did NYCCC ever put out a poker set? That could explain the paper-wrapped decks.
