I'm very happy to know that Erik Mana is going to launch a new edition of his well known deck..
After a very good start with the beautiful Mana Deck, according to his FB page, the V2 will be produced after successful funding on Kickstarter.
The new version name will be Zinfandel, which is a variety of red grape.
According to the information posted on the page "While we have kept some elements from the original Oracle, we have made some awesome changes with the box and back design including two new colors". One of the colours, I imagine, is the red that we can see on the seal in the picture.
No more info was released and the date was not announced, so for now I'll wait with great expectations!

Nope - if he's going with wine colors, the next will be gold, like a fine champagne...  :))

Hey, the first was silver - it makes sense!

Erik Mana's decks are amongst my favourite.

I'm a proud owner of a dozen signed decks of the Oracle edition, a sheet and more! Perhaps my best purchase. The sheet was the first I had framed and usually takes center stage in the collection.

Do you guys consider the Oracle edition a good collectable? It seems to have more than held its price.

Were the verve decks quick to sell out? - I wasn't paying attention.

And do you think the new editions will be popular too?

Very well noticed. Mistake corrected!

About what you said earlier, I think the Oracle edition is indeed a good colectible item with an increased value.

If it's based on wine colours, would the obvious colour not be white?

I have to agree with Don. With a name like Zinfandel for red, the other color will most likely cover the white/light side of wine. I don't really like the name Zinfandel though.

While we have kept some elements from the original Oracle, we have made some awesome changes with the box and back design

I'm glad he said that, I really like the Mana deck but would hope for more than just a new color. Can't wait to see more.

I've had the same thoughts; it'd be nice to see something more than just a colour change. I think the Mana deck is pretty cool especially with how the metallic inks are used in the back design for great effects. I'm hoping the Zinfandel does something cool with metallic inks as well as part of its design.

I stand behind my original guess. The facebook cover page has a blue seal. Erik's first thought while creating Oracle was to have a BLUE clone to the silver.. I dont think my guess is too out of the 'blue' (pun intended). :)

Elan Rouge sold out fast.  The colors became successively less popular.  Brio Blue and Shine Yellow are still in stock.  Most people loved the leather look back with the red deck, were a little cool to it with the blue deck, and really weren't fond of the yellow's leather look.  I thought they were fine, really.

Its funny you mentioned the Verve decks Don, I just came across them and really love the look. I can see how the Red was well accepted, but I see nothing wrong with the Blue or Yellow. Actually the Blue and Yellow...IMO, lend themselves better to the tuck box color than the Red.

Back on topic.........I would love something in a red metallic.

It was the "leather look".  The deck back design looks like the kind of high-end leather you'd see in a luxury sports car.  The red really looked like leather, but many people felt that was less so of the blue and completely unbelievable in the yellow.  I disagreed, since I've seen such colors leathers in things like expensive watch bands.

So, any guesses about what the cards will actually look like and why "Zinfandel" was the chosen name?

Pictures of the tuck, back and aces taken from Mana Playing Cards Facebook page. I'm really liking how it's all looking. There's nice elements from the first Mana deck, but the back looks completely redrawn to me. The Aces are looking really nice. A part of me wishes those pips are used for the regular pip cards, but I guess that's wait to be seen kind of thing.

The back design is a bit better then I first thought but It needs more silver and gold then it has now. I don't like the aces at all (exception AOS). Could have stuck with the v1 ace designs. I never liked over-sized ace pips. Mana AOS was always good.

I'm on the outs. V1 could been an accidental stroke of luck.

I think the zinfandel deck had something missing in the design,Doesn't feel like this better than the 1st version.I wish Eric Mana can release the old version of the mana deck with the original design(the purple color)

Erik has revised the front tuck box design. To be honest i didnt think there was any need. In fact, frankly, i think the new revised version detracts from the elegance previously captured in the original design.

The tuck revision is an improvement. Too many things I'm not fond of though. It also has some big shoes to fill.

- Aces Pips too Large
- Don't like the custom pip designs
- The back design borders are wacky looking.
- Not enough Gold and Silver in the back design
- The card font is awful

I loved the Mana deck.  I even enjoyed the Verve deck, all three colors - I'm probably among the few people on Earth who actually liked the yellow one.

But this?  I wasn't happy before, now after seeing the new box, I'm even less so.

It's not like he doesn't know good design - what the hell went wrong?

I still like it, we all look at things a little differently so I'm sure what pleases some, will not please others. That being said, I have to agree with Fred, I kind of like the faux "wax seal" more than the updated version, I think it ties into the concept a bit more.

On Eric Mana's website, http://www.erikmana.com/ , it's stated the Zinfandel and Indigo Mana Kickstarter is set to launch Wednesday November 20th. Should be a fun Kickstarter day with Pagan launching the same day too.

I think on the white deck they should use the indigo color for the silver foil accents and the black deck use the Zinfandel color instead of the gold accents. I think that would keep the feel and look of the deck more consistent.

My thoughts.

Love those courts. Sleek and elegant. Even if you don't like the new version, this is still a great opportunity to grab some original Manas.

19 bucks for the original deck isn't so bad. I've seen them go for a lot more.

Thought about doing the collector box  but $175 is a bit steep..Settled for 2 decks of each

Hmm...  Launched a day early?  Wasn't it due tomorrow?  (More like later today, since it's really late...)

I guess the release of the Pagan deck from Uusi had him worried!  :))

I have to say, I'm liking the design more than I thought I would, but that earlier opinion was based on what little we were being shown.  Still...  I dunno...

Latest update announced marked deck

Quote
Update #8                                                             Nov 26, 2013

Fun Secrets...

Hi guys!

There is a secret to this deck that is very exciting. To those of you who don't know by now, this deck has a Marking System that will allow you to know what each card is just by a quick glance at the back of the cards. To the untrained eye, there is nothing you can see that gives it away, but once you know the secret, the code is very clear.

But that's just a small part of the fun! Here's the catch - I'm not just going to give you the secret code. You have to find it! Each deck will come with a small riddle that will lead you to another riddle and to a password. That password is for a secret link that will be found on my website. Only there will I share the secret code to the deck.

It is a fun and awesome little adventure that only the intrepid few will seek and pass.

Exciting times ahead! ;)

Cheers!

Erik

I have yet to find a marked deck that didn't use UV inks or daubs or such that I couldn't both spot the markings AND break the code.  Riffling the deck while watching it will give away pretty much all such marked decks, though the better the marks are hidden, the tougher they are to spot.

In my opinion, the most discrete marking system was the Legend's.

When you riffle it, it just looks like the flames are flickering. I never even suspected it was marked until I read a thread on it.

It should be interesting, though. The Mana's back certainly allows for a marking system.

I would say the Madison Dealers and the Madison Players are tough to spot.  Unfortunately, they're also tough to read compared to something like GT Speedreaders or the Ultimate Marked Deck.

Since I was super late to the kickstarter party, this project has become the first one that I've backed - landed the last set of 2 for $20.  Although I think the Oracle's are my favorite, I'm excited to get the Zinfandel deck as it's a pretty unique color and I may be in the minority, but the indigo deck is very striking to me.  I'm pretty confident I know what he's going to do for the marking system, or at least where on the cards to find it.  The only marked deck I've ever used are the Madison Players, I just don't have a good routine to fit marked cards into (if anyone has any, please pm me).

Anyways, I'm pretty excited to have backed my first project and to see what projects 2014 brings.
Starting to get better...have to stay dedicated...can't lose any more cards in the middle of a trick.  Literally, completely lost a card.

There are no shortage of routines that you can use a marked deck for.  One of my favorites is to use a marked deck in concert with an invisible deck.  I allow the spectator to choose the card from the marked deck, then reveal it using the invisible deck.  It works even better if you use a Gambler's Deck - it has markings to tell you both the top and bottom cards of the deck.  You can have the spectator cut the deck and show them the bottom card - they'll never imagine you're using a marked deck since you don't even see the back of their card.  Done twice in a row, it really bugs people out.

I never knew marked decks existed. That is one of the coolest things ever. I may be in for one now. Might just have to get some money together for it. Do we know which deck it will be on? The Indigo or Zinfandel? Both?

Wait, you NEVER knew that marked decks exist?  You must be VERY young!  I remember as a kid finding really cheapo marked decks as well as some overly complicated ones like the DeLand Automatic Deck - it was marked to the point that you could track the location of EVERY card in the deck, but it was terribly obvious that the design wasn't that of a straight deck.  A small difference is hard to spot, but the DeLand deck had over fifty small differences on each card back!

Haha would you consider 19 to be very young? I am certainly young in terms of plying cards and experience. I have only been collecting for just over 2 months now and have learned tons already. As I can see though, I have a lot more to learn.

It is tough juggle my time between reading the discourse and studying for finals… The discourse normally wins lol

I really am interested in getting my hands on a marked deck sometime. I might wait for these cards to go public and then pick up a deck on ebay or something.

I was probably a pre-teen when I discovered my first DeLand deck.  I'm 46 now...

That deck will NOT stay at that price for long...  He'll be better off with something newer, unless he wants a museum piece to show off.  It's not a practical deck for everyday use.

Some better marked decks to obtain:

These four decks are either readily available or are limited and sold out but still selling in the aftermarket for reasonable prices.  They employ a marking system you have to learn before using.

- Ellusionist Madison Dealers
- Theory11 Madison Players
- Phoenix Apocalypse 2012
- Boris Wild Marked Deck (I've heard some negative reviews on this one and they're becoming scarce now that they're out of print; his Gambler's Decks are better)

These three decks are also either readily available or are limited and sold out but still selling in the aftermarket.  They don't have a system to learn - the backs are as easily read as the fronts when you know where to look.

- Bicycle Split Spades in black (David Blaine's Mind-Reading Deck)
- Gambler's Deck, red Bicycle Maiden Back
- GT Speedreader Marked Deck, red Bicycle Mandolin Back

These deck are "Holy Grail" decks - you'll never see them reprinted again.  They were printed before the ban by USPC Legal on alterations to the Rider Back.  The marks are as easy to read as the faces if you know where to look.  They were never cheap to start with and they're getting less and less cheap by the month.  For subtlety, the second deck is better than the first, but also not as versatile from a magician's perspective.

- Gambler's Deck, red Bicycle Rider Back - includes instruction book with tricks.
- Ultimate Marked Deck, red and blue Bicycle Rider Back - applications book sold separately.

OK, now that I've milked that tangent for all it is worth, let's get back to the new Mana decks!  :))

So Eric's update today is about his next project coming soon to KS.

Let me prefaced what I am about to say- In no way do I think Eric is a scam artist or thief.

Promoting your next project before your first project is funded, is a huge turnoff to me. I'm thinking about pulling the plug on this project. I understand the hype machine, but it could make one think that he is not focused on getting this one finished. Creators please wait until after your project ends to promote the next.
The updates I want to see would be-
1. Thank you to all of my backers for getting us funded.
2. I have received payment from KS, the artwork is finished , and I have sent it to USPC. I am also excited to give you a preview of my next project coming very soon to KS. I hope you will join me.

Just my 2 cents from someone who barely has a penny...I think the only reason he said anything was because it was a part of his stretch goal (one he only narrowly hit) that he would give insight into what he was working on, it's really no different than Jackson showing us some of his artwork here for potential upcoming projects even though Sherlock is likely his main focus. From the youtube video with the "reveal" for his next project, there really wasn't any substance card-wise, just a few stock shots and sketches.

I understand why it might be a turnoff, but I would expect that when the project is finished funding in 2 days we'll get the thank you e-mail you're looking for :D (this is my first foray into kickstarter, so I guess I don't know what to expect, but I can't imagine him not being able to deliver to only 450 or so backers as well - at least that's what I'm hoping!).
Starting to get better...have to stay dedicated...can't lose any more cards in the middle of a trick.  Literally, completely lost a card.

It's official.  Thought I would give him a bump up.  He is in his last 24 hours.

"Hi guys!

I want to clarify and assure everyone that I will NOT launch the next project until all fulfillment is complete with this project. That is a promise!

Trust is a major factor in a platform like Kickstarter and I want to earn your trust! You've taken the leap of faith with me so far and I'm grateful. As I've said in my pledge to you, my backers - I will be here every step of the way from design to delivery and beyond, so whatever concerns you have, I'll be happy to address them at anytime.

I think you guys already know that I do my best to answer everyone's questions and concerns. Rest assured that I'm here to take care of you. You're part of the Mana family!

Thank you all again for the support! :)

Erik"

Just solved the code. The marking system is actually really intuitive. The downside is that you need to look at the full card, not just the corner.

I actually solved the code with the riffle test before I got the link.

Zinfandel actually produces a fairly unique coloured red wine and white (with a golden tinge) wine, perfectly setting it up for two different coloured cards. In the wine world the word Zinfandel holds a strong presence and makes great sense when connected to these pictures if you understand the image this word portrays.

It's much simpler than you think.

All you need is the ad card, tuck case, and Erik's website.

No, sorry - I've to disagree  :o

Since over 2 weeks I'm the more or less proud owner of the Zinfandel and the Indigo Deck.
Since over 2 weeks I'm searching for the solution and the link.
For me it seems, without a good english its not possible to discover the "secrets"

Definitely my english is not good enough - sorry I'm a german guy and not the youngest  8)

Please can someone help me with some hints (via email) to make the decks useful for me.

Sorry for my english - it is www.leo.org's fault

Regards
Claus
