The Conversation Parlor / What drives the prices of cards?
« on: September 29, 2018, 11:09:44 AM »
It's been a long time since i posted anything, but i would just like to get some thoughts on this topic.

Recently as i was going through my collection and cleaning it up, I came across a deck of Bicycle Full Moon.
As a collector, i think the special/limited edition is quite cool. Lenticular lens, (which fits the theme of a man turning into a werewolf), USPC printed, Bicycle branded, custom foil, limited to 1,500 decks...etc
A quick search on ebay and a deck costs about $20-30USD max?

Off the top of my head, i can think of:
Bicycle Titanic has individual seals containing information of each passenger.
Seven seas by brain vessel where four decks make up a beautiful mural.
Run Decks with hard neck and shoulder cases.
Simple changes but thought differently. I have over 5000+ decks or more in my collection so i would say i have seen enough to make a judgement.

So many unique decks, so many designers trying out new experiments. Yet a deck of fontaine colour change of 15,000 decks is $50-100 or sometimes even more? Don't get me wrong, i don't set the prices and i am happy to make (or have made 8) ) money out of the stacks of existing fontaines that i have. But i probably won't buy them off the market if i missed out on an edition. I've seen people (even more so than last time) do a colour change and slap a limited edition to sell more decks.

I'm just more curious to why are people forking out this absurd amount for a colour change? The stock/finish? The marketing? Or simply a fear of missing out (FOMO) because everyone else has a deck? If its cardistry we are talking about, then i believe there are lots of nicer/simpler looking backs in the market?  :-\ :-\ :mindf-ck:

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / De La Rue - Comedia Playing Cards
« on: March 02, 2015, 12:33:18 PM »
So...... I have been on a long break, but still always shopping for cards.  ;)

Found this deck in a flea market and would be very very much interested to find out more about any information, even this brand, de la rue, and also of course the "value" of this deck. I found one listing in ebay, but then again, i know never to trust the prices in ebay.

The deck is in good condition with 1 x sealed and 1 x open + good condition. Box is also in good condition except a few "brown water marks" probably from the humidity or something. In fact, my deck condition is somewhat similar to the one posted on ebay (except my box is still one piece without any "taping"), so I'm just going to use the ebay link as i am a little lazy to upload the photo.  :P

Hi people,

As usual, i buy stuff which i have no idea what they are or what they are worth. So i need some expertise help again.

If any of you can help, do let me know on the history of this deck and if they are worth anything?

Hi guys,

I just saw a deck for sale in a half box (I believe not original)

The box is sealed and the only thing I can see is the joker card that says
"1939 Assn. Of American Playing Cards" & "Extra joker"

I'm sorry I can't take photo or provide more info..I tried searching the web but can't find the joker I found. I only found this

http://jokerplayingcards.com/post/3465456848

Which looks very close to the joker I saw..same "type/style"

Any idea if this deck is worth anything?

Playing Card Plethora / 52 Collectible Deck (1EyedJack)

52 Collectible Deck (1EyedJack)

52 Collectable Deck, A complete deck of cards that is made up of "52" different collectable cards. Please note: The deck is made up of decks that I opened and used for photo and display photos. The cards are in excellent condition. Each deck comes with 52 different cards, 2 jokers and come in a random box that I have sealed with a gold seal that says "52 collectable"
Cards included in deck,
Grid, Blue Crown Lux, Vortex, Blue Crown, Actuators, 1800 Red, Apollo Red, Quicksilver, Ritual, Flirtatious, Primavera,Sultan Republic, Black Fan, Seronda, Fulton's Casino Brown, Ogma, S&M V5, Renegades, Blue LTD, Floral, Fantastique, Blades Blood, Silver Blades, Midnight Blades, Red Verve, Black Lions, Players, Blue Verve, S&M V6, Grid 2.0, White Monarchs, Optik Black, Brown Wynn, Black Crown, Silver Split Spades, A. Bandit, Deco Silver, White Knuckle Red, White Knuckle Blue, Skulkor, Blades White, S&M V7, Vision Black, Rounders, Charity Water, Silver Acorn, S&M V4, red Crown, Guardians, Dealers, New Era, White Centurions.

Ok. I was browsing through 1eyedjack.com for the Black JAQK Wildcard when i saw something interesting. I'm not too sure if this is new, but it caught my attention.

Basically, it is an opened deck of cards with 52 (+ 2Jokers) cards from different decks. I'm having mixed reactions for this, but i'm leaning more to the "good" side, just to buy a couple, open it, and frame it up. Any thoughts on this?
